Bilstein b4 compatibility
I have an e92 pre-LCI m-sport with m-sport suspension.
On RealOEM it says there are 2 different shock absorber part numbers. One for stock suspension shocks and one for m-sport shocks. My question is are they the same dampening or different?….but just a different part number for realoem? They look identical. Can I use the Bilstein b4s and the stock m-sport springs when changing the shocks? Apparently the shocks are the same but it’s just the springs which are shorter on the m-sport models. Can anybody confirm this? Will the car not sit properly and I will need specific m-sport shocks. The Bilstein b4s I can only find in the standard shock PN. On AUTODOC and places like that it says the standard B4s are compatible with my car but I don’t think it takes into account m-sort models or not. The Bilstein b4 part number says it matches with the stock suspension part number, not the m sport shock part number but apparently it will fit from reading other bmw forums like z4. Nothing on e92 though. Anybody know? I’ve tried searching. Thanks. |

I have struggled with those part numbers, as I have had or still have several e9x's. The ride height is what is different about the two model shocks, not the dampening. You don't want to get the wrong strut/shock. To further complicate matters, Bilstein often makes updates, changing the part numbers when they do. I double and triple check part numbers before ordering, and finally make a phone call to FCP just to quadruple check. Love the B4's, so I agree with your choice. So, reach out to FCP and talk to them about what you're after.

I've had the same issues trying to work it all out as I have a 330i SE - but with sports suspension.
If you have m-sport suspension as standard then my understanding is that you need the B4S dampers and you can use these with the standard m sport springs. |

Bilstein do two B4 versions. The B4 is for standard SE suspension and the B4S is for M sport, the damping is a bit stiffer.
I changed mine from SE to M sport using the B4S dampers. |

Yes, it's firm but not too crashy and not so low you catch speed bumps. Similar to the M-sport set up but with slightly better handling.
I h Guess that why so many people convert to Eibach Pro springs. |
