Totaled or not

Hey Guys,

I was driving my daily driver last night and was tboned by a 1999 Ford Expedition.

Is my car totaled or not? 2011 Jetta 2.5SE, 35k miles.

Get your vote in and I will let everyone know when I hear from the insurance company!

I vote yes!

I'm willing to bet Insurance and body shop will push hard to repair this. The body shop will say its repairable then just keep getting supplements which my hit the value of having had it totaled.

That's just my guess.

This. Mainly depends if there was severe structural damage.

Are you using state farms preferred body shop? If so, they will fix it with junk yard parts.

Agree. DO NOT use a State Farm approved shop. Odds are good you'll get a sub-standard repair, or a fixed car that in fact should be totaled instead.

It's your car, you have the right, as provided by state law, to get your car repaired at any facility you choose. Common sense says it's probably a good idea to choose one that's not in bed with a big insurance company....

I always use Haury's in Lake City when it comes to insurance. Insurance companies hate dealing with them because they don't half ass the repair. Haury's will most likely total the car.

thanks for all the comments and recommendations. I was not going to use state farms body shop I had one in mind downtown that does mostly bmw and benz body work if it actually does go to get repaired.

I had my BMW here (and my Audi before), they do excellent work..

BMW, Mercedes, all the European certifications. Check their website.

I also vote for Haury's. Had my Lexus repaired there a while back. They do an exceptional work.

I used Haury's before on my last e90, Insurance did not want to total it. I have them tow it to Haury's and Haury's totaled it.

I took a car to Haury's once because my rims got stolen and car got keyed. I had to fight insurance about the rims because I had a Mini MC40 with OEM BBS. Got the car back and noticed they just painted over the dents. Thought they would've asked about it first. Then I noticed they never put the GB logo on the hatch and the BBS were a different set. I have no hate on Haury's though because it was Insurance that screwed up I am sure. Plus, at that point I just wanted to get rid of the car. Paint came out beautiful too.

I used Metro Auto Rebuild in Seattle. They are top notch and recommended by BMW Seattle. If it is too far I suggest contacting BMW of Bellevue and see who they use. They can only send their cars out to BMW certified shops so it would be a good source of info.

This was about 12.5K in damage to get it fixed right:

The car was sideswiped. No airbag deployment. The at-fault driver was uninsured, and the repair work was covered by State Farm under the uninsured/under-insured motorist component of my policy.

The work was done at Haury's. The car came out looking great. State Farm, however, was a royal pain in the arse to deal with on this fix, and their refusal to cover parts of the repair work resulted in a lawsuit that took over 2.5 years to settle.

I'd be amazed if your car wasn't totaled.
