The hassle of selling privately plus losing the tax brake from the trade-in. I guess dealerships know this and can low ball on trade-ins. Especially in situations where they know we won't walk away from the car and even if they do, it will sell the next day.

Here in Arkansas even if one sells a vehicle rather than trade it in he has 60 days to claim sales tax credit for what he sold his vehicle for.
