BMW E90/E93 N53 Engine Intake Manifold Removal Problem
Hi,
It's a longshot but has anyone taken the intake manifold off of a BMW E93 with an N53 engine? I have undone every hose and wire but when I try to lift the manifold off it only shifts a couple of inches. It seems to be tugging at the back but there really isn't anything left connected that I can see. Thanks. Last edited by snoopy1664; 08-27-2024 at 03:01 PM.. |

Little confuzzled here, hoses and wires on the exhaust manifold? Are we really talking about the exhaust manifold or did you mean to write intake?

No worries, these things leave everyone a bit fried. Did you get the wiring block underneath disconnected? We don't have N53 here in the states but I imagine it's the same as a N52, https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...8#post27386678

On the N52 there is a clip for the fuel line in the corner that is out of sight. Did you also disconnect the pcv hose from the manifold? And disconnect the wiring block as the previous guy mentioned. Not sure what else it could be.

Hi everyone,
really appreciate the responses. I managed to get the intake manifold off and the starter motor swapped over. The problem is/was that although the N53 is similar to the N52, one major difference is that the N53 has an EGR module bolted onto the manifold. There is a very stiff hose that is connected to the EGR which was causing the resistance. This is the same as the N43 apparently according to a very helpful person on Reddit. Anyway, the solution was that I had to remove the alternator so that I could get my hand into the manifold and unbolt the EGR. When reassembling the manifold I had a problem positioning the EGR back in place so I called it a day but I'll pick it up again tomorrow. Thanks again. |

yes, I have taken the wiring block off but I did it slightly differently in that I undid the 2 bolts holding the metal bracket that the wiring block is attached to. Your link looked simpler and I'm pretty sure it would be easier to reattach the block when I'm putting it back together if I had done it that way. Thank you very much for your reply and assistance. |
