iDrive 7 vs 8
Just read that for 2023, all the 2 series will use iDrive 8. What are your thoughts on that compared to the iDrive 7? I personally like iDrive 7 more but I might not be as well informed as you guys. I believe physical button is superior no matter what and iDrive 7 looks much more driver focused compared to that one big screen of iDrive 8. I might be wrong tho...

For me the id7 has the screens build into the dash. That's just way more elegant design for a sports car. But more importantly, the UI of idrive 8 just doesn't look good. For Some reason it reminds me of Toyota…

I personally think when a vehicle updates or changes the infotainment system, the system should improve the users' usability and the design. However, it seems like the iD 8 is a step back in both design and usability. To me, it just seems like a lazy effort to streamline the building process. Would love to hear more thoughts from everyone.

I definitely agree on what appears to be the problem of decreased usability of the iD8 but what bothers me more is that the iD7 is built into the dash while the iD8 just looks "stuck on" to the dash like an afterthought. It's going to take a whole lot of "getting used to it" for me to accept that rig in my next BMW.

I like having the latest software too, but I don't understand why there aren't dedicated screens for HVAC and Nav/Infotainment. Or at least, dedicated areas on the one big screen. The few buttons left already feel the same. They learned their lessen with the volume knob. I guess they have to relearn that lessen with HVAC controls.

try turning on something like heated seats, on idrive 7 its one physical button touch, with I drive 8 its 4 seperate touches to do the same and I dont know about you guys but driving and trying to mess with a touch screen is just a recipe for disaster

But how hard is it to say, "Turn on heated seats" without even having to hit a physical button? Or say "My feet are cold" so the system blows heat to your feet.

For me voice is a pain. Turn down radio, roll up sunroof and windows then say turn on heated seats Then the car tells me I have have found 3 businesses that match seeds and meats.

How often to you all chance A/C settings. I set it once when I get it and tend to leave it. The more advanced, better resolution, bigger screen, etc. seems like a net win if the only thing you sacrifice is a few barely used physical buttons.
