Comfort Access Retrofit Project
Hey,
I have did some reading but there is nothing substantial on this topic other than its a very expensive retrofit. I want to attempt to do it as I am keeping my BMW for a long time and always wanted this feature. I have a 2009 BMW 335i xDrive Coupe. I will post with my progress on this, cost and pictures as I get to the install phase. I know that programming will be required which not my strong suite so will need to find someone to do this part. I have the cable, NCSExpert and Edibias all functional as was used to do simple programming and programming of the Front and Rear PDC. I got this so far: - Control unit passive go (61359134708) (x1) - $60 - New Truck antenna bracket - $3 - Used BMW Left FRONT DOOR HANDLE COMFORT ACCESS - (51217207565) - $40 - Used BMW Right FRONT DOOR HANDLE COMFORT ACCESS - (51217207564) - $80 (need painting) - Bumper antenna (x1) and Interior Antennas (x3) - (61356922212 & 61356922211) - $55 - Driver and Passenger wiring door harnesses with comfort access - $50 - Comfort Access wiring harness, i couldnt find one on ebay, so this was made for me by Dumitru (he is a member on the forum). So if u can't find one or make it, he definitely can make it for u and the price is reasonable. Also I found the below link, I will use this to figure out the antennas location. http://workshop-manuals.com/bmw/3_se...rt_access_sys/ Check below for part numbers http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=41_1971 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=61_1718 So below is an update of what I have done. Progress is slow as it is my daily driver. I have removed the back seats and rear console to install the rear CA antenna. I also removed the trunk liners to install the CA passive GO module (goes in the PDC device holder) and the luggage CA antenna. After you remove the liners from the trunk you have to also move aside the insulation to access the PDC device holder. There are 3 screws holding it so unscrew them and then try to wiggle it out. Once out but the CA Passive GO module and then reverse the instructions on how you got it out. Removed the center console trim. It's straight forward and there is a lot of DIY instructions and YouTube movies. Below are few pictures. Below pictures connecting CA wiring harness to the PDC module plug. Below are pictures showing the connection of the CA wiring harness to fuse 61 in the JBE fuse box. For my car it is pin# 10. I took the glove box out. There is alot of DIY out there to describe how.....and then you have to remove the 4 torx screws to be able to get back to the plug behind the JBE fuse box. Below are pictures showing connecting the CA wiring harness to the passenger wiring harness. Same applies for the driver side. For my car it is as follows white wire to pin# 12 and red wire to pin# 25. Use an 8mm socket with a small rachet to loosen the screw holding the plug from the door to the car. There is a black thing that you will need to pull it out to disengage the plug from the wiring harness of the door. Once unplugged make sure to take off the blue thing before attempting to put in the pins into the plug. Below is connecting the CA harness to the CAS module. Ofcourse take the 3 screws off to remove the under tray under the steering wheel. Disconnect the various connectors and get it out of your way. Unplug the CAS connector. Connect the wire from the CA harness to pin# 30 on the CAS connector. I used a quick connect. Passenge door wiring harness and the CA handle install. Be careful not to break any of the plugs. Programming was done by Dumitru. VO $322 adding comfort access. After I purchased the CA key (Dumitru got me the key and ofcourse the option was added to my Car VIN as seen below). I used www.bmwvin.com to confirm I got the key. I put it in the slot and turned the car on to make sure the car recognized the key. Once this was completed I turned the car off the key out. I turned the car on without the key in the slot and BINGO the car turned on Project was success. Below is a clip to show the CA retrofit in action. Let me know if any one have any questions. Hope this helps

I don't have anything to add other than that you'll need the comfort access fob. I know they aren't cheap to get programmed and everything.
Also, try to look on Craigslist to see if any cars near you are being parted out. You might get lucky and they'll have CA. |

Good luck! I've only heard of maybe one other person that has done it successfully but didn't hear much about it.

Not trying to down you on this retrofit OP but I think the main snag to why you do not see many people jumping to do this retrofit, is just the process of getting a new key to work with your car. BMW does not authorize this not even to it's dealers as far as I've read. (Unless you gotta few links in higher places that we don't about and would kindly like to share) This post marks me as subscriber so I'm in as well.

Though I already have Comfort Access (a must have option IMO), I'm still interested in seeing the final results of this project. I have a feeling it will be cost prohibitive when all is done.
This is why you don't see a lot of adaptive cruise retrofit projects due to the insane cost (both now and when ordered new). Im a cruise junky but it's too much to swallow for a retrofit project (and I never saw a single used car being sold when I was shopping with this option). |

Does anyone know if painting the door handles will impact the functionality of it. I found a used door handles with the carriers for both driver and passenger sides for $220 but not to my color match and I was wondering if I can paint them and will they still work.
Any input on that is greatly appreciated Thanks RB

Hi,
Please can you tell me if your driver handle has a keyhole. You mention that you have Comfort Access. The handles I am seeing do not have key hole and want to make sure I am getting the right one Thanks RB Quote:

If you're seeing a driver's door handle for sale without a key hole, how are you supposed to get in the car? Make sure you're not mistaking the other handles with the driver's. |

If you ask me this makes the project almost a nonstarter. Two things come to mind: find a wrecked donor car with CA, buy it, take title to BMW and get key made, then swap all the electronics to your car (so your car thinks it's the other car). Have fun taking it in for service, when they scan the car it will come up with the wrong VIN. Or find an aftermarket system that would work. They probably interface like a remote start system, and we know that is very difficult to achieve in our cars. Or just trade your car for one with CA. |

Wow, that's a pretty ambitious project! I don't recall anyone successfully completing a CA retrofit. I would expect a considerable amount of coding and maybe even harness replacements. Good luck and please keep us posted!

But you want real luxury opt for comfort close doors. I used to close the door myself but my F10 shuts them for me lol. |
