Oil Filter Housing to Engine Block mating surface
Hello,
I recently had a damaged bolt head on the bottom angled bolt of the oil filter housing (the short bolt that's angled up and to the right, next to the coolant hose). I had to have the bolt head removed so I can pull off the housing. The head and flange was sanded/filed off and now the aluminum block has a slight concave dip in it such that the bolt does not sit flush/flat against the aluminum surface. There is some play/wiggle in the bolt now but I have not put it back together with the OFH in place. Should this cause any trouble/should I be worried? A couple pictures have been attached but they aren't the best. I can try to take more if needed. Thanks!! |

yeah should be good. I just did mine and that same bolt locked up. I ended up losseni g the other 2 then shifting the entire housing up and down to lossen that bolt still took sometime, sorry I know that doesn't help you now.
the threads are on the housing so as long as it pinches the housing tight with the gasket it will be fine. you could maybe add a washer to give the bolt a flat surface to be tightened against.

Thanks for the replies. I tried wiggling the housing but it didn't seem to want to budge. It felt like the bolt was glued to the block. Just hoping I don't run into this again the next time I have to replace these gaskets... Doubt I will though now that the bolt isn't fully flush.
