Help Needed: Torquing Suspension Bolts with Subframe & Differential Out (E92 3-Series
Hey everyone,
I’m currently working on my E92 335i, and I have the subframe and differential out of the car. I’m at the point where I need to torque down the bolts on the suspension components (control arms, trailing arms, etc.) that are supposed to be tightened at ride height. My question is, Is it possible to torque these bolts down using a jack to simulate ride height with the subframe out of the car? I didn’t mark the suspension height before removing the subframe, and I imagine it might be easier to torque everything while the subframe is out. Has anyone done this, and if so, what’s the best way to go about it? Appreciate any advice! |

Easy enough when the frame is on the car.
I can't see how it could even be done off the car but I am still at apprentice wingnut mechanic level. Jack up high enough from diff and put jack stands on side lift points. Then just jack up from under camber arm until it lifts off jack from whatever side you are doing. Just get it high enough initially so you can swing a torque wrench, it is very doable. |
