Self adjusting clutch and alignment...what am I missing?

I'm trying to install a pressure plate and get it aligned. I'm using the 335is kit for my 07' 335i.

From my reading, I can't release the pressure plate lock ring until the plate is torqued down. How do I use the alignment tool if everything is already torqued down and locked into place? Apparently, once I release the lock ring I can't loosen it up?

I'm confused.

Thanks for your help.

You basically have to do it in sequence and trust the procedure. Once you remove the lock ring youll need a special tool to reset the self adjusting mechanism. Just do it right and youll have no problems.

- Remove screw on the alignment tool
- fit alignment tool to flywheel
- torque down pressure plate (this covers up the alignment tool)
- Use an allen socket to remove the lock ring
- pull out the alignment tool using the screw

I followed the steps and the alignment tool is stuck. It won't budge. Should I very slightly loosen the bolts until I can move it? Will that affect the pressure plate and clutch negatively since it's self adjusting? Thanks
