How do you remove the pilot bearing?

I'm in the middle of replacing my clutch and flywheel with the transmission off of the car. The pilot bearing on this transmission is tiny (bought the replacement). How do you get it off the shaft? It would seem like a normal gear puller wouldn't even fit in side the bearing.

I used otc blind hole slide hammer puller pn 4581. Worked well.

Wow...what a day. No, I didn't get it out. I'm in a bind now. My friend and I couldn't get this fucken thing out. I'm so pissed off. We called BMW and they literally said they don't touch that part when doing a clutch job.

The only thing I can think of is drilling that little hole but it seems like the pilot bearing case is made of hardened steel so drilling didn't get us anywhere either. I guess I need to get some heavy duty drill bits? Any suggestions? We tried a bunch of stuff before chiseling my tranny.

Do NOT f*ck with it anymore. Lol
Research and buy the bmw tool to remove it. I don't have the part number handy... but if you don't want to replace the trans, do not touch it again till u get the tool. I tried EVERYTHING and ruined my input shaft which is not serviceable unless u ship it to Germany LOL. Your best bet is to get the oem bmw tool

autozone has couple different pilot bearing pullers, combined with slide hammer as a loaner tool.
You have to get one which is round split in 3. it applies the pressure evenly and pulled it out on the first attempt. Bearing was already damaged from using other puller(with two fingers) with no success.

My friend got it out today, finally. I was at work so I didn't see it but it involved a screw and a slide hammer lol. I'll ask for details. I did see the old pilot bearing and it had the back punched out clean. A perfect circle.

For all future people use this tool from harbor freight:

It's not cheap like the Autozone tools and works by spreading 4 separate ears which allow maximum contact with the surface of the bearing. Then just slide hammer it out and gently tap the new bearing in.

This tool was a life saver and all credit goes to "Tony@vargasturbotech" who recommended it to me.
