Is the E92 Design a Classic?
Some cars become "classic cars" because of their popular design or performance characteristics like the Porsche 911 or 55/57 Chevys or 56/57 T-Birds.
With all the favorable comments in the BMW and other forums about the E92 design, do you think the E92 is an instant classic, a future classic, an instant and future classic or not a classic?

Ever since I saw an e92 I thought that everything about the proportions and interior reminded me of what a 633-635csi would have become if it progressed naturally through the years.
That being said, I think it's like most BMWs where it will be appreciated even when it's pretty old. Classic....I don't think so. Appreciated....absolutely.

bunch of e90ers voting no. HAAAATERS! ha
It's a beautiful design. That's why I sacrificed a little more to buy it. Not sure if it's considered a classic. Only time will tell. |

Classic?? Wasn't the E92 just a copy cat of the 93 Civic coupe?

I wouldnt say classic, but like the above poster said, it'll be appreciated.
Right now, I still think E36 is a great looking car after 15 years, both the interior and exterior!

i like the e90 design more than the e46, but i think the e46 design is more "classic." it looks more like a race car. i dunno... my $0.02

In general, "classic" cars are out of production, so like other posters said..only time will tell if it will hold as a classic. However, I think the e92 looks more like a real coupe than the e46...it maybe larger than previous models but the body lines give it a more elegant coupe-like look. IMO the e46 2-door design seems like it was forced out of the 4-door version...too squarish so to speak.

It's not an instant classic, but it may be in the future. Who knows.
Right now when I think "classic BMW," I think E30 M3, 1600, 2002. E39 5 is deserving of joining those ranks as well imo. |
