Help!!!! Manual swap coding

Hey guys,

I’ve recently just done a manual swap on my 2007 335i. I’ve carried out the coding via Protool, and have deleted the $205, however I still have communication codes stored and the car makes no boost. I have the clutch switch disabled so it starts without the clutch switch as I don’t have one yet, I also have the CAN lines looped. Can anyone help? Have I missed something?

Note that the codes are the same when the cars “auto” or “manual” in the DME.

you need to reflash DME software with the version supporting automatic gearbox

I’ve flashed an updated tune with MHD, selecting manual instead of auto, but still no changed

i'm not sure that mhd flash whole firmware
may be tune is only characteristic map
you need to flash all files usin winkfpt

Ahh right, protool automatically wrote it in 4 different modules but still have codes for the EGS which I can’t seem to find in the protool software

Have you managed to fix this problem as my car is manual and they changed the dme and I am wondering if mhd can be used to code the dme

No such thing as auto software or coding for the DME. It uses learned variants.

If going from auto to manual you need to reset the learned variants in the DME using Tool32.

The car shouldn't be looking for the EGS since it came out with the trans and you have the can wires looped correctly. Have you watched the Vehicular DIY youtube videos on his swap? He's very detailed plus there is a couple detailed posts on this site. Protools I think has a DIY on their FB page. You factory coded all the modules using protools right? Cluster, DSC, CAS etc...from your post. Wondering if you missed something though. You shouldn't need BMW standard tools to do this if you have protools.

The car was manual from the factory but the previous owner changed the dme and they put one from an auto. I want to know if there is anything I can do to remove the egs signal from the dme. The dme already has the vin from my car on it

All DMEs are manual until an EGS (auto trans) is connected. As soon as EGS data is received the DME will change from manual to auto trans, this flag is stored in the DME in NVRAM which is not cleared by downloads or any trash tools like Carly, only by a specific command from a diagnostic device to tell it to default back to manual.

Even removing the EGS and looping out the CAN wires will not reset this status.

The only procedure I'm aware of for clearing this status is to use Tool32. You need to load MSD80.prg and run a job called "ecu_config_reset" with this string "1;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0 ;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;1;0;0" pasted into the argument box. I've attached a screencap of this job and the argument being run successfully on a DME.

This would also be possible from ProTools by running the same job and argument.

There might also be another way to run this inside ISTA or INPA but I personally prefer Tool32 for it's speed and simplicity.
