335d Maintenance Schedule

Hello,
I am soon to be owner of a 335d. Very excited.

I've been trying to find a maintenance schedule for this car, but have been unsuccessful.

What are some of important maintenance items and their frequency?
Some things I can think of are
oil change
transmission fluid change
brake fluid change
differential fluid change
Urea refill? (new to diesel cars. how often do you guys refill these?)
Any regular maintenance of turbos, EGR components, DPF components, and/or SCR components?
Timing belt/chain?
Anything else specific to a diesel engine?

Oil is 12K miles per factory, most here change every 5-7K. It is ridiculous to run a high compression turbocharged diesel engine with 12K oil intervals.

Urea fill at oil change, but most just top up with 2.5ga and good to go.

Tranny fluid BMW says is lifetime, but it is better to change every 50K. Same goes for a diff.

Coolant and brake fluid every two years or more often based on mileage.

Fuel filter is very important. BMW used to suggest every second oil change, so 25K miles and then switched to every third. But most here change every second oil change as it is fairly easy to do yourself.

Other filters such as air and cabin, every year or based on mileage.

The only maintenance of the alphabet soup (EGR, DPF, SCR) for some of us is a complete removal of these. But generally, they are maintenance free.

Please make sure that the fine example of the 335d you get has had all recalls/updates done and has had carbon cleaning performed.

100k service for most cars includes spark plugs and timing belt, neither of which are relevant to the D.

The car is 32,000 miles, so I don't think CBU has occured yet. I will look for local shops to perform that in 20k miles.

Maybe BMW changed things, maybe the booklet is lost, but the Maintenance and Warranty booklet that came with the car has a schedule in it.
BMW abandoned the "lifetime transmission fluid" and a couple others before 2010 - it's 100K miles

Since the OP appears to be missing the booklet, here is a copy of the one for my 2010 335d. Also, I got this BMW service checklist at some point...

Another resource is to join BMW CCA and then email Mike Miller for his Old School maintenance schedule. For your car. I am in the process of getting my hands on my paid for 2011 335d and as soon as the dealership finishes the engine replacement and I'm sure I will keep the car, I am emailing Mike for a schedule.
I am leaning towards 5000 mile oil changes to keep pace with our other cars.

5-6k mi would be just fine for oil changes

First post - Why was your engine replaced??

I bought my 2011 335d last fall with about 47k miles on it. The engine was also replaced at about 53k miles. It had either a collapsed lifter or rod knock. Dealer didn't bother to find out which. They accidentally ordered an X5d long block. They bought / swapped components to convert x5d long block to 335d long block. When all was said and done - they paid about $25k to replace the engine under warranty. I paid $18.5k for the car.

For what it's worth, I was looking into buying one that had a new engine replacement due to a spun main bearing

did you purchase the warranty or since it was below 50k miles it was still udner warranty ? and less than 4 yrs ?

The first owner purchased the 100k mile gold warranty when he purchased the vehicle.

I paid the $50 copay for the engine replacement.

The repair order had a note on it that read something like "warranty work has exceeded the value of the vehicle"

I just picked up a 2.5 gallon Peak BlueDEF at HomeDepot for $11.97 plus tax. I ordered on line so I could pick it up. Got a free bottle of water for that, too.

I'm guessing that a dealer could use your key or vin # to check the warranty.

Another guess - I doubt the warranty is valid if the car has a salvage title.

For some reason I did not set my notifications so I didn't realize I had responses. The engine was replaced for, you guessed it, spun main bearing ending up in complete seizure.
I knew this to be a problem with gasoline N54 and N55 motors. This helped steer me to the N57. Main bearing points to lubrication failure. I would think boost issues would affect the rods first.
Luckily it was under warranty ( new car till July 2016, CPO till July 2018) but like I told the rep from BMW, it's not like they did me any favors. They only did what I would have compelled them to do in court.
I had planned to do 5000 mile oil changes but now I will stick to it rigidly. I had 88k on my S4 following that, I have 152k on my e46 330ci.
I got the old school maintenance guide from Mike Miller of BMW CCA his advice is:
Oil @ 5000
Brake fluid annually
Coolant every 2 years
Transmission and diff @30000
DEF with oil change (I am going to drain, not top up)
I am also waiting to see what the dealer and BMW are willing to do to compensate me for the stress and changes in business and personal travel plans.
