I’m not sure this car is considered a performance vehicle.

There’s a massive step down when comparing to your G80.

My old F-type was slower but was WAY more smile provoking. I think the 240 with a full exhaust is a good mix. Ideally if it was sub 3500lbs the edgyness would make up for the lack luster exhaust but when its as heavy as it is and the sound is conservative the only thing its got is acceleration.
I had a 2018 F Type 400 Sport before my 2022 m240i and the steering was night and day better on the F Type, so I get it. Honestly, the steering numbness on our G42s is my biggest gripe (and I don't have many). I fixed the sound "issue" with the Dinan exhaust and the Dinan intake and I am very happy with the sound now. Eibach springs tightened up the handling a bit while still retaining the daily comfort (I don't track).

Try to get rid of the crappy 2 Series as soon as possible! See your dealer now!

G42 B58 has a different tune to the X3
m40i pre-lci tune hence the sound difference. I too have been having quite mixed feelings about my M240i but there are days where it feels like a Lexus in Eco Mode. My biggest niggle is I gave up an RS3 for it and resale in Australia is quite poor

Gotta be expected if you have an M2.
Must be horrible only being able to win a race in the dry…and in a straight line…and less than 1/4mile…and paying £10k more…

I have only about 2,800 miles on my '23 M240ix, but I think I can understand what you are sensing about this car. When I was breaking it in all I felt was how heavy and ponderous the car was. Basically, I was so bored by it that I was convinced I'd made an expensive mistake. I shoulda just bought a damn truck. Keep in mind that my other car is a '16 Porsche 981 Spyder, 6MT and maybe the lightest car Porsche made then. To be honest, I still get that same feeling when just moving along somewhat slowly in the 240. You do need to be at least somewhat circumspect as to where and when you do this, but the best Rx for me was to finally decide to "wring the car's neck'" so to speak. This car is not "big" in terms of length, but it clearly is big in terms of being heavy. Having said this, I do still have the problem in that when I want to drive it seriously I find that I'm going very fast. It's not safe or responsible to be outrunning all the other traffic, so I often keep the car out of 8th gear and let somebody else go on ahead. The M240i is certainly not a sports car for me; it is a good GT, but not if you let it loaf. Almost everything is too big and heavy today, which is why I've ordered a Miata.

Mind you, my 240 is still on order so I can't have a truly informed desicion, but:

Interestingly, I was cross shopping the m240 with the miata. I had an unofficial semi-extended test drive with the Miata on a trip in Hawaii, and absolutely loved it, but... I live in the PNW and 90+% of my actual driving is highway commute or equivalent. I realized that as much as I would LOVE a Miata if I lived somewhere that my driving was even 50% fun twisties, the Miata would be the move. But for me, I realized the Miata just isn't the move in highway traffic, and that was the final kicker for m240 for me.

Blazer9547: I think you are definitely making the right decision for your use case. Of course, I don't have the Miata yet, but I did have an '11 NC version many years ago. I actually ordered the new Miata to serve as my track car (so it will need suspension and tire changes) because I cannot afford to use my '16 981 (Boxster) Spyder for that- parts and track insurance are very expensive! If I eventually come to my senses I will likely sell the Spyder, but the problem is that every time I open the garage door I simply cannot believe how beautiful the darn thing is. Driving that car is just insane fun, but also quite intense, so I don't just hop in it for errands.

I think you will likely love your new M240i. In my opinion it's too heavy to be a sports car, but it is a fast and comfortable GT, and is great fun when you really put your foot into it. The only issue then is that you are at triple digit speeds in a flash!

I like this comment “wring it’s neck”. It’s so true. When you finally get after it, the car tightens up and shows a different side. Also, I have learned to manage the pops and burbles through the throttle input and manual shifting. The car is especially burbly in 3rd. Just press the gas hard then let off. Pop, bang, burble!

Steering feel is dead, sadly. I guess that’s modern cars.

A 23 x340 and the M240 it’s just not as sporty feeling the car is incredibly quiet in all modes acceleration feels dull in all modes except for sport + The x3 made more sound and felt quicker I don’t wanna be too harsh on the 2 series if you’re judging it as a normal BMW, it’s a wonderful car, but if you’re looking at it as a performance vehicle, I think it falls flat on its face I know it’s not the lightest thing in the world anymore my G80 is technically heavier, but it feels lighter than my technically lighter 2 series I was more looking to see if anyone else has had this experience if you share the same opinion that I do or if this was something that they’ve made a change for the 24 model year The car just feels like it has no edge to it. If you took the badge off the rear of this car, I would know no difference. I would assume it was any other BMW. I’m not even joking, but at one point I went to make sure there was a B58 under the hood of this car. because I couldn’t believe how quiet it was and how just slow it feels.
I had a F22 went to the X3( more practical) then missed the power/fun ! Ordered a 2024 purple M240. Didn't connect with the purple or the car. The car felt heavy and big. I thought more like a 3 series I was guessing. Went back to a F22 more fun to drive and that's the purpose of this car for me. I thought it was just me.

I had an F22 as well, and it was definitely more sporty feeling. The G42 suspension is more compliant on harsh roads though, so it's a trade-off. The G42 definitely feels closer to a 3 or 4 series than a F22 2 series, but keep in mind apparently the 4 series is even softer and less lively, so it could be worse still.

The biggest disappointment for me is my F22 was more well built (fewer extraneous noises in the interior). Other than that, the G42 is higher quality (seeming) overall. Definitely a step towards more luxury or cruising than sporty compared to the prior gen.

Do you drive it in manual mode or leave it in sport auto? I feel it comes alive and feels much sportier when you decide what gear to be in, even though the auto modes are great.
