Not sure if I am doing something wrong or the facility is not available.

When checking petrol consumption I get a readout for.....


Distance.
Amount of petrol used....UK gallons.
Average MPG.



....but no average speed readout, a function that is available on just about every other car built in the last 25 years. Weird.

Maybe because it not really that useful so they just didn’t include it.

Agree.

But I did like this feature on my other cars as I would on long road trips strive to maintain an average speed very close to the posted speed limit. This on stretches of freeway between say (on I40) Barstow to Needles, Kingman AZ to Flagstaff, etc.

I was looking for the average speed readout yesterday, actually. As we were sauntering across the skating rinks that were our roads yesterday and barely seeing the speedometer above 10km/h, I wanted to affirm my annoyance by seeing a low average speed on that trip.

So it appears that an average speed figure is not available.

Although hardly the end of the world I am very surprised.

Can't think of a single car that I've owned in the last 20 years that does not have this function.

I initially wondered if it was a UK sourced car thing, as we often get the shitty end of the stick compared to our friends from the former English colonies.

'22 g42, not that terrible curved screen. Sorry didn't see in your post the model Yr. Unlucky... another function they've stripped out. MY22 really is the 1 to get!

My test drive M240i was the same as yours.

However, when my car arrived 13 months later it came with the curved screen 'plonked' on top.

Back in the day BMW would produce beautiful clear and easily read instruments.

The digital display in my car is anything but and reminds me of some tacky 1980's computer display.
