Kind of crazy to think how far Mustangs have come to even be considered a comparison to an M car…inferior build quality, 100%…but what Ford has been able to accomplish for the money is respectable.

I’m a BMW guy at heart, my garage is covered in heritage M memorabilia…on one side is an M2CS. Was close to putting an M3 Lime Rock Park in the other side…wanted an N/A high revving V8 with a 6MT. After 6 months of deliberation, I got a 350R, and couldn’t be happier with the experience. 8250 red line in a flat plane crank 5.2L. Interior, meh. Build quality, OK. But the interaction points, the driveline, 10/10. An American GT3 RS for 1/3-1/4 the price. Once you get on throttle, the plastic dash becomes complete irrelevant. Best manual I’ve ever driven, best sounding V8 I’ve ever heard, and the handling/brakes are better than my CS.

I love both cars - I don’t care who makes them or what’s on the logo, I care about t what they are, how they make me feel, and how they perform. And both of the experiences to me are epic. To call top of line Mustangs rental cars at this point in the models evolution is laughable…doesn’t have to be for you, but can definitely acknowledge that these machines are no longer the straight line cars they were!

Drove GT and could not get used to the long hood and it being relatively high all the way to the front end. It’s a boat. And interior is garbage. None of the carpets and soft coverings were installed correctly or fit well. I can only imagine defects under the skin. No desire to ever consider it again. Respect for gt350 drivetrain and that’s it.

Of course
Bmw M is enthusiast dream
Porsches don’t have as big of following
M2 is relatively rare compared to other M models.

I get some reaction and I also do the same to other M drivers

Unless you want more refinement, but then you have to drive like you want to go to jail to have fun
I was using it in example sense.
It is very different on the steeet, engine sounds etc is good no question.
Sound isolation in the cabin is terrible, it’s good for track car but not for street.
It gave me a headache in less then an hour driving it.
Most people don’t daily it for this reason.
Believe it or not gt500 is way more pleasant street car then Gt350

The times for the Mustang are slow due to the altitude. The M2 would have won regardless

Okay you win. You know more about modern American muscle than me, even though I owned a 6th gen 1LE for 3 years as a daily driver, took it to a few racetracks, and now have owned an M2 for 3 years.

OTD was $156k (tax, fees, dealer PPF on top of a $143k MSRP) which climbed to $162k after a price hike.

I backed out because every time I drove a base 992 I found it suboptimal to the M3. It’s possible to go bare bones on the T at $135k+ OTD. But is it worth the premium? I’m not convinced. And I have driven 20k miles on my weekend car since then, so I wouldn’t be immune to depreciation on the 911. Then there’s the issue of insurance and maintenance… bottom line, the M2 or M3 are a great value.
Your problem was you were buying a base 992 with a “T” instead of moving up to an S. At $156k you should’ve definitely moved up the 992 chain.

Ehhhh, I don’t know that to be true. There are levels to this enthusiast game. You are crazy to think Porsches don’t have as big a following. Those enthusiasts over there are rabid.

Agree. T has a bunch of sporty elements that make it more appealing than the base 992, but not the upgraded engine. My S build with mostly the same options was closer to $170k OTD. Might as well go GTS…. Trust me I went round and round on this and in the end failed.

Rabid, sometimes snooty, increasingly obsessed with “spec,” but mostly -in my experience at least- down to earth and loving their cars. Not driving them enough but that’s a different issue

wait ... handling of a fat monster better than M2CS?

is the Dark Horse as good? same redline? i've been eyeing one, i like traction control assisted drifting - does it have a "MDM" mode that assists with going sideways like the G80/82?

Actually there are a lot of us American muscle owners are looking at the M2. Especially when a fully loaded S650 Mustang is knocking on the door of the price of a base M2. I for one have an S650 on order as well as an M2. My previous ride...just sold her waiting for my M2.

The same can be, and often is, said about the BMW community. Hell, a good segment of the Porsche community started with BMW’s. lol! I do agree the BMW ///M guys drive their cars more, but an ///M is also more useable for daily driving. I drove all of my ///M’s daily. My 992 is an “every once in awhile” adventure, but what an adventure it is.

What are the three slashes before the ‘M’ supposed to denote?

They're similar, yes. However, the trouble the Mustang has is you have to cope with a Ford dealership...oh, and it's made by Ford.

I've had many, many Mustangs over a long, long period. And, I still have my track car, a 2008 Mustang GT. However, I just couldn't deal with Ford dealers anymore.

BMW M2, for the win.

Why I generally agree with you regarding Ford dealers. My local Ford dealer here in S. Cali, South Bay Ford is pretty good. Well I should clarify, my guy at S.Bay Ford is good. I am in and out of the dealership and get treated really good.
