Manual. So long as the legs/knees are fully operational and there is the availability to check the box for a manual transmission that will always be my selection. The minuscule time advantage of the automatic cannot replace the overall fun factor of the manual. Furthermore, the G87 will be the last I.C.E., manual transmission M car to be offered.

Ditto. Possibly the last M with MT.

Future modding potential?

The only time I ever questioned my choice was when I read a passing comment in an unrelated thread that implied the manual transmission cannot take as much torque as the automatic. I am probably going to take the six speed no matter what, but would taking the manual actually limit modding potential?

I have the ZF8 in my X3 M40i and when I looked into modding it people were running into issues straight away with the ZF8 being able to handle more torque and were getting their transmission flashed along side stage 2 tunes so it shifted properly. So what am I missing? How did X3 owners have shifting issues with light mods but the same ZF8 is in the M competition models?

I blew up a trans in a previous sports car and don't really want to do that again anytime soon. Are the mechanical limits of each really different enough that it is worth considering?

Maybe someone else can answer, but I don't use the app. I don't like that you cannot see or give likes with it and if I remember correctly had a hard time zooming in on stuff. I just use the web browser on my phone and set it to desktop mode. Takes some getting used to but once you are there's no going back.

Is desktop mode under options in the control panel?

Manual, sequential manual (proper dog box with clutch pedal, not the 2-pedal pseudo sequentials) or nothing, for me.

It's a setting in the app for each browser you are using on your phone. They all do it slightly differently, but it's not under the control panel. If you can't figure it out then just Google how to do it on the browser and phone platform (Android, iOS) you are using. It's a great feature as it displays the website exactly as you'd see it on a computer. That may or may not be good because some text will seem small, but you can zoom in on it.

Manual transmission for me. Auto/DCT is fun, but only when out on track and driving at 10/10th. The only exception I found is a PDK + naturally aspirated Porsche engine (having a dual clutch in this instance makes you feel like you are playing the engine as an instrument, wailing through every gear) Otherwise, on public roads, having a manual is more engaging.

I ordered mine manual because it was a no-brainer. This kind of sports car and pleasures must be manual. As long as age doesn't affect my knees, I'm enjoying it. the driving pleasure is different and I would not even see the difference with the automatic gearbox which is two tenths faster. Who can notice this difference if he does not make a circuit ?. In addition it will be the last with this option available, all the others are automatic

I was originally going manual but now I can't decide. I just had a manual GT4 which is probably one the of best manuals out there and don't want to be disappointed with a rubbery BMW manual. I had the ZF in the Supra. It's no DCT but still pretty good. Still on the fence.

I know manual is the way to go but I have a GR Yaris, which will be my “fun” car, so the G87 will be auto.

The MT or bust, if AT was the only option, I'd probably go with a different car.

Manual for me on this one all the way. Tougher choice if there was an AWD auto-only version with some additional power like the M3/4.

Unfortunately it isn’t a real manual transmission, it will have a placebo “clutch pedal” (but no clutch) and software induced power “disturbance” to give a jolt when the software simulated gears “change” when the “gear lever” is moved, but there is no gearbox.

It's under the G42 M240 forum. Whoever is doing the web app development can't figure it out I guess 😆

I want a manual really badly, but my wife will drive the car every now and then, and she doesn’t want (or trust herself) with a manual gearbox sadly.
