Post Dealership buying experience --The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Starting this thread as a place for everyone to share their G87 buying experience amongst BMWNA dealerships. The goal is to save G87 buyers time by putting a spotlight on what dealerships they should do business with and which ones they should avoid.

List your experience with any dealership/s you've dealt with trying to get a G87 and if they've been 'Good', 'Bad' or 'Ugly'.
  • The Good: Dealership that was willing to sell you a G87 at MSRP without any hidden fees or add-ons, put it in writing and will have it signed by the sales manager.
  • The Bad: Dealership that won't sell you a G87 without some ADM.
  • The Ugly: Stealership that is looking to outright fleece customers with outrageous ADMs.

I predict this will be a fun thread. Used car prices have gone to sh1t and new car prices are still way too high. Grabbing the popcorn.

From myself in Alberta after having engaged all 4 dealers:

The Good: Dealership that was willing to sell you a G87 at MSRP without any hidden fees or add-ons, put it in writing and will have it signed by the sales manager.
Calgary BMW (Class A)good guys so far
Edmonton BMW (Class B) good guys so far

The Bad: Dealership that won't sell you a G87 without some ADM.
Bavaria BMW (Edmonton) (Class B) Unknown ADM values but acording to them, they will not do custom orders, not keep list and pre-spec their allocations and sell to first in (possible highest bidder not sure)

The Ugly: Stealership that is looking to outright fleece customers with outrageous ADMs.
N/A.

Honorable mention:

Gallery BMW (Calgary part of the same group as Calgary BMW) (unknown Class level) they never returned my interest call.

Hendrick BMW in Charleston does not do ADM even on special vehicles (M4CSL, etc.)

My CA DD's a '20 M2CS 6MT in Hockenheim Silver. Let me get in, start it up and rev it to get a feel for the product. That gives you an idea of the kind of enthusiast he is. My experience has been great, especially for a first time M buyer like myself.

Try buying a 911. Porsche treat you like they just really can't be bothered.. if they do take your money, they're doing you a favour, so don't expect them to go out of their way or anything. If you do find a decent dealer, they will take your call from time to time and eventually a car will show up.

Kelly BMW (dealing with Bill Reifsteck) has been a pleasure to work with. Previously ordered my 240 through them, will certainly be ordering more in the future if/when appropriate. Owner is an enthusiast, service managers are great, and they have a no-mark up policy.

I'll update this as the process plays out, but to start;

For Reading BMW in Reading, PA

The Good: 1) The summer of 2021, they were willing to write into my deal on an X3 M40I that I would get first spot for G87 at MSRP.
2) Since then, my CA has always been responsive and assured me that they are holding up their end of that deal.
3) Recently, my CA set for me to see their TR X5M to help me ensure I would like that color. He and the sales manager continued to assure me that I am first and they're looking forward to when we can place an order.

The Bad: Nothing yet, TBD.

The Ugly: All of the above was a lie. They pulled the rug out from under me and wanted to add a 5K ADM after a year and a half of saying MSRP. Steer clear of Reading BMW.

Another update: They reached out and offered to honor the original MSRP deal, citing internal issues that need worked out. Communicated that they are not doing ADM.

I'm glad to see posts like these. It's great hearing that not all dealerships are crooks and want to earn your business for multiple products.

My car-buying experiences have almost always been positive, and this go-around is no different.

THE GOOD:
Beto Palma at Gebhardt BMW in Boulder, CO has been great to work with - Got me on the waitlist for MSRP, quick to answer questions, reaches out with updates and seems like a good guy. My only quibble is that the $2,500 deposit is non-refundable which seems unnecessary.

I've also had limited but positive interactions with BMW of Denver Downtown. I'm on their waitlist (MSRP) though pretty far down and would be surprised if I ended up buying from them.

Finally, Jacob Dixon at Schomp BMW has been helpful in very limited interactions.

THE BAD: Nothing yet.

THE UGLY: Nothing yet.

For the Philly / Central Jersey area:

The Good
Open Road BMW in Edison NJ - refundable deposit until production starts, no markups, all put on paper. CA I spoke has been pretty solid at keeping lines of communication open

Otto's BMW - Same story as above. No markups, refundable deposit until production. CA was pretty solid here as well

The "meh"

BMW of the Main Line - I was told there would be no ADM, but I have nothing in writing, no purchase order or contract drawn up, nor would they do that this early in the game. CA was pretty terrible in terms of communication and I had to hound them with follow ups making sure they got my build code when I sent it over. On the plus side, i guess, there was no deposit requirement. I don't think these guys move too many M models so I really don't have much hope, but I'm apparently #1 on the list here.

Not all Porsche dealers are created equal

Same with BMW stores

The Bad

Preston BMW: I made a deal for their HEA car at MSRP. Got the deal in "writing" in text messages and a deal sheet showing final price and fees. Confirmed that we're good to go and stopped shopping around. Two days later, Kyle Whelan (sales manager) said he called around to other dealerships and decided to mark it up $5k. Asked him about the deal already made, he said it was a "mistake", he's vetoing it, and it's $5k ADM or kick rocks.

I don't mind a dealer asking for ADM, but not upholding your word after settling on terms is simply bad business.

That's despicable, I would threaten legal action with them if you signed anything. Dealerships that jerk you around like that aren't worthy of a selling a luxury brand.

Man, I'm sorry that happened. What a scumbag.

I don't know if you even want to do business with them at this point, but you can always tell him that if he refuses to honor his offer, you'll inform BMW North America of the matter. No supplier likes their dealers tarnishing their reputation and no dealership wants to get on their supplier's shit list.

Good luck.

I'm honestly not surprised. I'm sorry this has happened to you. This is my advice. Call and ask to speak with the general manager. Politely explain what happened. If you approach the conversation with calmness and logic I bet they will uphold their original offer. It's easy to say walk away, but you might miss out with such low availability. And I can't stress this enough. The general manager will be much more likely to resolve the situation if you are calm and polite. It sucks to bite you tongue when you are obviously in the right,, but no one wants to help out someone who isn't nice.
