Arrow Non-Shadowline Headlights versus Shadowline Headlights

Two photos clearly depicting the two headlights. Which is your preference and why?

Non-Shadowline has a chrome strip at the top of the headlight.

I've kind of soured on the chrome strip. It detracts too much attention from the LED DRL. I will def replace this part with shadow line.

Shadowline FTW. I don't think the silver line is necessary. I does nothing. The Shadowline can easily go the chrome tips as well.

No difference for me as I will end up with the base headlights.

My gripe with the Shadowline Package is the black exhaust tips. Below is a perfect example of the black exhaust tips with the Shadowline Pkg totally fading into the black rear diffuser. To avoid this in the U.S. you either do not order the Shadowline Pkg to get the chrome exhaust tips or you order the Shadowline Pkg and later purchase the chrome exhaust tips and swap out the black tips at $240+.

Edit, added an additional photo.

I'm sticking with not doing shadowline on mine, I slightly prefer the shadowline headlights but I much prefer the chrome tips, and for the ~$200 cost it's easy enough to just not add it.

I also prefer the shadowline headlights, but I prefer the chrome exhaust tips so I am sticking with Shadowline on my build and later will swap out the exhaust tips for the chrome units. Naturally swapping out the exhaust tips is far less expensive than swapping out the headlights.

Shadowline, because I don't like chrome anywhere on a modern car.

It really depends on the lighting. The tips are glossy and reflective so you can see them well. Only in low lighting will they be hard to see. I wouldn't be surprised if you got the car and end up keeping them as is.

Regardless of lightning I still greatly prefer chrome exhaust tips. Black tips always look dirty and if you do not maintenance wash your own vehicles then they never get properly cleaned. They also swirl like crazy too! Our service department wash guys never clean them.

Edit, keep in mind that when M cars began receiving the quad exhaust tips, which was on the E36/7 M roadster followed by the E39 M5, all M quad exhaust tips were chrome. I am old school and like what I like.

If that's the case and I were in your shoes I would not get the shadowline package. You'd be paying $300 for it and then another $240 to replace the tips for a total of $540 just to have the slightly different styled headlights without any difference to its functionality.

Only issue with chrome/silver/stainless is that get dirty (especially on motors such as this) easier and can easily discolor. My Audi aftermarket tips (Billy Boat), even with washing 3x per month on average, are discolored and I have had the burnt tips (blue coloration) on another car that discolored. Don't know if titanium will discolor.

I have never had an issue. If they were properly maintained, they continue will to give their factory appearance. Any carbon buildup is easily removable via various products and a little bit of elbow grease.

As stated, it is for a less expensive than swapping out the headlights to accomplish what I desire, Shadowline headlights with chrome exhaust tips. The reality is it is peanuts in comparison to the overall cost of the vehicle. I always get a good chuckle when people gripe over several hundred dollars yet they are spending $70k+. Also, keep in mind that I get those chrome exhaust tips from my parts department at employee pricing.

I get what you are saying but exhaust tips are an easy swap. Headlights, not so much.

If you like the Shadowline headlights get them. I am pretty sure you get a good discount on parts for tips as a dealership employee.

The chrome strip is not removable? Or we just don't know yet?

The headlights are sealed units. You would have to bake them apart and void the factory warranty on them as well. Note, the Shadowline headlights simply do not have a chrome piece removed as that piece at the top of the headlight is black plastic with the exact inlaid design that the chrome piece has.

Shadow line all the way. The headlights just look so much better when the chrome bits are absent. You can tell a bigger difference in real life vs in the pictures.

I like chrome exhaust tips as they stand out more, but I ordered mine with black wheels so I would like to keep the black theme going

Can’t tell in the pics… The non-shadowline on the M2 come with the gold trim DRL like the non-shadowline on the G42?
