ZF8

They should buck the trend of an auto cs or csl. They can be manual too! That would help with the weight a little.

Realistically, for the amount of money that a G87 CS or CSL will cost and only have the ZF 8 Speed auto, I much rather give that kind of coin to the aforementioned manufacture.

I think we have pretty much concluded that the current manual transmission used cannot handle any additional toque over 406 ft-lbs.

I'm not so sure...how'd they make it work in the 3.0CSL? And don't tell me it's only 406lbft. No way they raised the boost pressure so significantly and didn't increase torque...

Of all the claims BMW makes I find this one the absolute worst, and for very selfish reasons of course.

Yes, as formally discussed the 3.0 CSL is exactly that, 406 ft-lbs of torque per marketing materials.

FYI, it is an old unit. The manual transmission.

Manual (406lbft)

I forgot about that. How much would it cost to upgrade clutch/flywheel etc. It does sound selfish.

Actually there's no good solution right now. A few people used Clutchmasters but they can be an absolute disaster for some so steer clear.

Assuredly someone will provide a good solution soon enough.

For $750k one does not acquire a significant weight savings. What you get is a handbuilt vehicle and exclusivity. Most will never be properly used and become garage art.

zero21 406 ft-lbs of torque as I stated.

This is exactly why a G87 Competition, CS or CSL will be auto only. The manual transmission simply cannot handle any more torque than that number of 406.

Edit, If a one off vehicle that sells for $750k shares the same manual transmission that the G8X base vehicles have then there is no way in hell a G87 Comp, CS, or CSL ever receives a revised manual transmission to handle a higher torque rating than 406. #FACT

What do you think are the chances BMW develops a new clutch for the last special run of ICE cars? I figure minuscule at best since it’s only used on 3 base models for another half decade?

Absolutely ZERO. The R&D price tag significantly outweighs the overall profit. Keep in mind that the take rated on manuals is fairly minimal. In Germany the G87 equipped with a manual is €500. FYI, BMW does not manufacture the transmission, Getrag or ZF does. It would be an operating/production cost loss for them as well. The hard reality is the manual is dead with only Porsche planning to stay loyal to it until the death of ICE.

BMW used to source, I believe, fairly nice Manuals (I know a lot will disagree), I loved my 2002tii’s and my E46 is great though has a slightly long throw, now they seem like an after thought, though suppose that makes since since all the $ is in the autos these days.

There has only ever been two manufactures for BMW’s manual transmissions. I mentioned both above.

ZF’s bread and butter these days is its 8 speed automatic. It is used by a ton of automotive manufactures as well.

Yeah, I got you, I was saying the ones they sourced in the past had been better than now.

I can't wait for someone to dyno our car with a manual transmission. Who's willing to do the break-in miles first week of taking delivery of their HEA? Anyone?

The current unit used is fairly long in the tooth.

Have you seen his Autobahn comparison with the Comp? I’d still take the Manual without hesitation.

Not a shocker as BMW is notoriously known to be conservative with their hp, tq, and 0-60 numbers.
