What key are we getting?

Anyone know if we getting the current key or the new key?
The 2023 X1’s come with the new key.

I really like the 2023 keys

that is not a "2023 key" , that one is specific to its model one.
You would still be getting the usual keys as the MY2023 g80/82 , g42 , etc ones ( meaning the one on the left picture).

Its the M key with the M colors that has been around now for quite a few yeas in the first picture.Looks way better than the new M key IMO.The G87 will most likely keep the same key to the end of its production cycle.I don't remember BMW changing a key design during the production run.

Key number one, though it does have the M tri-colors on the side.

Keys have changed during a vehicle production run. The first BMW to come to mind was the Z3 Roadster, Z3 Coupe, M Roadster, M Coupe, and E39 LCI.

Thanks for the replies.

The first key is my current key but with the M colours on the side.
I think the second jet black key looks so much nicer but oh well

Second key looks like it’ll be a scratch magnet and won’t look as nice over time

Aside from the physical key there's also a Digitalkey you can setup.

It does make the key a bit thicker, but it also restricts one from accidentally pushing buttons within their pocket. I have actually had several clients do that which resulted in opening their trunk lid into a garage door.

I've had my trunk open about 3-4x from just pocket bumps.

There are two versions of the standard key fob. There’s the basic one with a black lightweight top and a slightly more premium-feeling one with a heavier silver top. I’ve gotten the better one with all of my G82s, from base to CSL. My G42 (M240i) and G22 (M440i) came with the cheaper-feeling black top key.

The black top/buttons appear to be more commonly used on the key I posted a photo of.

Edit, I have recently been informed that key #2 will eventually replace key #1 for M Sport, M Performance, and M vehicles.

"Eventually" is very vague. I am guessing not in this phase of production though.

Yeah sorry I meant key number one by plastic key.

My wife's X6 has the same key but with the chrome bits.

It does not seem to happen at a specific time. It tends to happen when they phase out and the NOS inventory is depleted. Example, a 2002 Z3 had two different styles. It occurred randomly during the last model year.

Fairly confident in one of the new X5/6 LCI videos I saw that they’d switched keys to the second one shown, which is narrower and all back - likely a scratch magnet over time.

Thing is with the Digital key card and on phone key - keys will lose their relevance/importance over time.

I find myself using my phone to tap and enter and start the car more regularly given convenience and having to carry one less thing.

Differences, G05 LCI production does not begin until next month though. G87 production began last December. Makes all the difference in the world.
