First 23 G42 DIY Starlight 😂

Hey guys, some I am installing the starlight myself. Here is an update took off the headliner and was able to take it out through the passenger door. Also took out the rear seats and rear right trunk pannel to see all the fuses and figure out where I am going to get my power and hide the box.

I was trying to get it since I posted the G20 info on 2/16 in the other thread. My typical source was not working.

Please keep this going, can you list parts and other details as you go along or at the end.

I may actually do this in the future.

a starlight kit with 500 lights
hot glue gun
electrical tape
sharpie
measuring tape
sewing needle
tools of course to take out the headliner

for wiring i used
some pliers to cut the cable

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. We should have a thread called how I wiped £10k off my car’s value. ETTO tho.

Yes, here is an update sir.
I wanted to go a professional job, so took me a bit longer than anticipated. This is my second time doing this, and wanted to make sure for my car that it came out as best as humanly possible.

Going to install soon on the car, the car is going crazy, throwing me a whole bunch of codes 😂

Nice, are you going to hide the controller/light box ontop of the headlining or did you have a better spot to hide it?

So the proper way to do it, is the hide the box somewhere else. If you place it on the headliner than you are going to face fitment issues.

I figured, but did you find the somewhere else so far?

I was looking through the electrical docs, for an elegant solution to power the lights only when the headlights/parking lights are on, vs with ignition and manually turning them off during the day if so desired. Everything is Lin Bus controlled on these cars, no more switches and relays, no simple wire tied to the parking lights or ambient lights.

I plugged it into a fuse in the rear trunk. Turns on and off on start button. Just went through all my fusing in the back with a volt meter.

Before I installed my starlight headliner I called the dealer and asked the price of a new headliner, I was quoted $1200.00 CAD. That means you'd only essentially lose a couple thousand, if the dealer or person you're selling to actually cares about the starlight headliner.
