Carl Sagan's The Dragon in My Garage
A thought-provoking article by the late scientist Carl Sagan.

I don't care what they say, I'm not switching to an electric car. I love my fire breathing dragon!
(And that was a pretty long shaggy-dog article to just make such a basic logical/empiricle point) |

Although I'm a CS fan, that's a long-winded waste, written in that style, no doubt, to quell rebuttals.

Initially, I was excited about EVs. But after learning how dirty they actually are through the mining and manufacturing processes, I changed my mind. I do still think plug-in hybrids and regular hybrids are great alternatives and done correctly allows ICE/EV technologies to compliment one another even in performance vehicles. I really like the Cayenne E-Hybrid and if they offered it on the Macan, I would probably trade my Macan GTS for one. I talked to one owner who gets about 1200 miles on a tank (mostly urban driver).

I don't at all understand the issue with ICE vehicles. The tech is already there, all we have to do is spend the money on the correct alternative fuels vs spending it on battery tech. It will be many, many, many years before EV's/battery tech is as viable as ICE/alternative fuels, yet political agendas won't allow it.

DI Wankle ICE + alternative fuel is absolutely the answer IMO, but that's just from an engineering standpoint, the world wants electric, the instant power and infinite TC is out of the bag, and won't ever go back in. |

I will NEVER intentionally buy an EV. There's more than just the "instant on," there's the charging time, range, etc. I would have constant range anxiety. I have just under half a tank and we're taking a small drive tomorrow and I am not at all concerned about needing gas. With an EV, I would have to spend way too many brain cells doing the math on distance, available charge that may or may not be accurate, will we make it back home, how much time will I waste waiting for a charge, etc.
