They've watered down the M brand so much that it's just a badge now
Want a M engine in your X7 SUV? Sure! But the X7 M60i
I agree 100% the M brand is being diluted for the reasons you stated above. I forget the exact percentages, but the % of bespoke parts, unique to the M version of that model (in the M3/4 at least), has shrunk from generation to generation.

However, not once, to my knowledge, has a standard M car (not counting special editions like M4 GTS, CSL etc.) received bespoke headlights, taillights or interior layout. Some people seem shocked to see that the taillights haven't changed, or hopeful that it won't get ID8 with the same interior layout. The biggest change I've seen so far has been grills with the G80/2 getting a front end design not shared with any other model and the G87 getting the same treatment with its grills. However, we know the G80/2 get the normal 4 series headlights and the G87 still gets the normal 2 series headlights.

I told my friend after seeing the architecture of the new M240 that he needs to purchase a F87 ASAP.

I can now say, my theory was correct.

I'm sure however, that this car will have better options out the gate than the OG M2 did which is cool.

Considering the M3/4 are literal land barges compared to their past examples, the M2 slots itself in a nice niche.

If Individual is an option I'm sure we will see some wonky examples soon enough.

Lol we haven't even seen the full vehicle yet so how can you say your "theory" was correct?

It will be available via the Mexico factory, but a recent experience has made us aware that the individual color palette is very limited for the U.S. M340 produced solely at the Mexico factory versus the M340s built in Germany for other markets. German produced M340s get the full individual color palette.

Edit: And… before someone asks, no you cannot elect to have a M340 produced in Germany in order to gain access to the full individual color palette. We tried… no go.

So which is it? Are they losing credit with petrolheads or with art critics?
Would you like definitions of what a petrolhead is vs an art critic?

Not one word about how it will drive, but yeah, you are definitely a petrolhead! Did I mistakenly end up in ArtCriticPost.com?

All the whining about it being ugly. I'm sure it will drive great, just like the G8X drives wonderfully. I'm perfectly happy if all the art critics go buy another brand.
Well, I was speaking purely from a cosmetic point of view, you can't get away from the fact that BMW are on a 'WTF' design phase the last couple of years, and they have many of us scratching our heads as to why?

I don't think anyone can ever question their engineering, and I have no doubt the new M2 will be amazing and a perfect send-off for the last great small ICE M car they make.

But, I do agree with you, it is more about the way it drives than the way it looks. And like I said in my post I actually like it thus far and think it will look amazing.

That's not how things worked when I ordered a TB M340i in late 2020. Only Germany produced individual orders. No individual cars were manufactured in Mexico.

Its still the same even for the 2023 model year for the M340i.Only the Munich plant is doing individual colors. If you also order the car with the Nappa Leather Dashboard or the Carbon Fiber Roof the M340i will also be produced in Munich.

Neither of those are M340i options in the United States.

Doesn't matter. For the rest of the world including Canada if you order the leather dash or the carbon fiber roof the vehicle is produced at the Munich plant. If you order an individual color in the US then the vehicle will only be produced in Munich. The Mexican plant still hasn't done any individual colors for the 2 series and the 3 series.

It matters a lot to anyone purchasing a M340i in the United States.

You're a better person for it. My future with buying another BMW rests with this car, so I'm not holding anything back and going to be blunt AF.
Looks like we're in the same boat lol. This is the last hope for me also.
Me too

I am liking that much of the lower portions appear to be body color and not needlessly gloss black.

NA informed that the only individual colors available for a M340 were on the US individual website which has since been taken down. Client was looking at the EU site and has since moved their order to a Munich produced model. Problem solved…

The North American market receives zero 330s or M340s produced in Germany. They are all produced at the Mexico plant and to-date there is no loophole around it.

Good design is there to be had for those who want it.

That said, I'll judge the G87 when it's released properly. These kind of shots would make a supermodel look bad.

Agreed, these rear reflectors are getting ridiculously large. The DOT does not require front or rear reflectors to be big at all. Who could possibly think that looks good?

I don’t know about the US but for Canada nothing has changed.Canadians are still able to order an individual color for the 3 series. It looks like for 2023 they are starting to produce a couple of the semi individual colors in Mexico. They are Dravit Grey and Tanzanite Blue.According to the ordering guide the frozen colors are only produced in Germany. So it looks like the Mexican plant is finally doing some individual colors.I would assume this is because the G87 is starting production soon and will have individual colors available.Canada also gets regular production of all 3 series variants in both Germany and Mexico.Nothing has changed for the 2023 model year.

BTW in the ordering guide NA means the vehicle is produced in Mexico and just the model name means it is produced in Germany.
