The X7 M50i has always had quad exhaust pipes. They just put the decorative single exhaust cap in front of them. All they have done for the X7 M60i LCI is replaced the single exhaust cap with dual exhaust caps.

Yep… nevertheless it is now visible as a quad exhaust which was part of the discussion in this thread that M Performance vehicles are now receiving the appearance of quad exhaust that once were exclusive to full M cars.

Doesn't bother me.I have no problem if BMW wants to put the full real round quad exhaust pipes on all M performance vehicles. They look great.

Upon writing my last reply I was reminded that I need to watch my language around the forum regarding what an "M" model is. Some people really get bent out of shape and offended if you dare refer to the performance models as 'M-Lite', 'not a full M' or 'not a real M car'. Never mind that BMW refers to them in the same manner as you can see for yourself in the aforementioned video clip above for instance as well as in this clip "...because there is no real M7" - Domagoj Dukec, BMW Head of Design. These same people disregard the fact that everyone from automotive journalists to YouTube influencers also refer to these models the same way.
To the pious amongst us, holding such a thought means you are a terrible person who frowns on non-M cars and should be called out. All of this of course is based on biases and conjecture. |

I always love these threads. An M car has always been what BMW has wanted it to be. The first M3 was a 4 cylinder and then when it switched to 6, well how dare BMW put anything other than a naturally aspirated straight 6? The M5 has always been all over the place in terms of engines. Who cares if they are putting quad exhausts on an "unofficial" M car? Buy it if you like it. If you don't, find something else.

On the one hand, i don't love it either.
On the other hand, M cars have always been "car nerd cars" that normal people think look exactly like the models they're based on. Nothing has changed. Car nerds still know the difference and normal people still think they look identical. |
