Possible EKP failure - Thoughts?
A brief background, I've been building a project N54 for the last year or so. It's been very slow going, one thing after another. Right when I thought I was ready to get to tuning, I have a new issue. Pretty sure I know what's going on here but I want to check in with you all for suggestions.
Mods: Pure600 2" Inlets Outlets DPs FMIC Fuel-It Stage 2+ Bucketless LPFP 3.5bar TMAP PR Coils Wedge MHD custom flash (currently on base map, no revisions yet) xHP stage 3 6AT flash Brand new index 12 injectors So I finally got the car totally back together and I thought I was ready to take a log to send to Wedge for a first revision to the map. Unfortunately after a WOT pull, my LPFP psi dropped from 70 to 15 and the car shut down. It wouldn't turn back on but when I came back a few weeks later and attempted to start it, the same thing happened. Started at 70psi but after a pull dropped to 15 and the car wouldn't run. I'm, almost positive this is an EKP issue from the fuel-it LPFP. Can anyone confirm these symptoms line up? The codes I get are 29DC and 2A2D. If you agree it's an EKP issue, what's the current best workaround? Should I purchase a used EKP to verify? or should I purchase a new one and code it? Alternatively, should I look into an upgraded LPFP controller? Last but not least, I believe a new EKP can be coded using ProTools, can anyone confirm? Thanks! I have the exact same issue but only when my tank is at 1/4 full or less. I replaced the fuel regulator assembly, and tried a different lpfp but same thing is happening. Once the tank is half full the lpfp doesnt drop at all. I did swap an ekp from my other n54 but the results were the same. I did not code it though so i might try that in the future. You can definitely code it with protool as ive done it before.

I've purchased a used EKPM3 to test with. My plan is to first code the replacement EKPM3 to the car with ProTools then put the existing one back into the car. Then do a pull with the existing one with the expectation that the LPFP psi will drop after the pull and the car will die. I'll swap it with the replacement EKP on the side of the road and if the car starts back up with 70PSI I'll know that's the source of the issue. From there I'll need to see if the replacement EKP has the same issue, or if it's ok. If it has the same issue, I guess I'll either need to try a brand new one, or buy a BPM4 if I can find one. Coincidentally my car is at about 1/4 tank... I haven't filled it up, mostly because it's been sitting for over a year, but also because my vent valve is broken and it'll only let me pump a fraction of a gallon at a time. Thanks again for the info. Please update me with your findings, I'll keep this thread updated with mine. |

Here's the latest:
The car long cranked and wouldn't start after allowing the EKP to cool down for a few days. I swapped in the used replacement EKP and had the same issue. MHD live logging said the car had 5-8psi on the low pressure system. I reinstalled the original EKP at this point to isolate troubleshooting. I pulled the LPFP out and tested continuity of the harness to the hat. I also powered the pump from an external power supply via the hat connections and it ran fine. When I reinstalled the LPFP still no luck, still 8PSI. I can hear the LPFP run for less than a second when the ignition is turned on but it immediately shuts off. Using ProTool, I opened the EKP module and clicked the first option which seems to have cycled the LPFP like a test plan would. It ran constant until I left that screen at which point it turned off. After that MHD read 74psi so I started the car. It appeared that the LPFP was pumping because the car idled for at least a minute holding the 70+psi. I'm fairly confident I'm still going to have the original issue if I go drive the car but I'm hoping I can use these new findings to lead me in the right direction. Anyone have any suggestions on how to move forward and what to look at next? |

Not yet. I’m waiting for the next batch of BPM4 to be released and will try that.
I need to test more with the used EKP I purchased. I will code it to my car to see if that changes anything. I’m going to try it this upcoming weekend. I’ll report back. |

This literally happened to me last week. Car died and would not start for 20 minutes until EKP cooled off. If you got a used one it might have been overheated and already damaged. I got a brand new module and added passive cooling (heat sinks and thicker thermal padding) and have not had any issues since.

i dont think the ekp would matter if the car runs fine with full tank of gas and lpfp craps out when its at a 1/4 tank

Yesterday I installed and coded the used EKP to the car. Once that was done it fired right up, although it was running with the old EKP for short drives. With the old EKP the car was missing on cold start until I gave it some gas. It didn't seem to do that with the new EKP. Testing is a nightmare because I need to have a tow vehicle lined up. I'm hoping this solves the issue even for a while until I can upgrade to the BPM4.
I tried to manifest the car being fixed by treating it to new wheels last night. Ordered a set of ARC-8s as a peace offering to the maintenance gods. |

I haven't tried filling the tank beyond 1/2 yet. My vent breather is bad so it only lets me fill 1/8 gal at a time. It's very annoying. I have the replacement part I'm just trying to not pull the intake manifold until I'm ready to walnut shell blast the intake runners.

The car did not accept my peace offering. Took my wheels then broke down on me again like a savage. At least it broke down at the bottom of the driveway this time. I think my only two options are either to wait for a new batch of EOS BMP4 to be made or to change to an external pump with a Hobbs switch. Leaning towards waiting on EOS as I just purchased an e90 that I’m sprucing up to replace my Tesla as my daily
