New to the N54
Hey guys I'm from Boston and I just picked up a 2009 E92 335xi after my 2007 E92 328xi was totaled.. I guess things happen for a reason! I'll post pictures soon, but it currently has 95K on it, has anyone had experience with high miles on the n54? Anything I should know or be cautious about with this mileage? Thanks

What type of service records do you have? TBH any number of parts could be on the way out at this point if they weren't replaced at the proper intervals by the prior owner. I'd look closely at the valve cover gasket and the oil filter housing gasket for leaks.
But the actual motor is a beast, if all the supporting hardware checks out start modding.

Sell it.
Injectors suck, fuel pumps suck, turbos suck, vanos break, water pump blows. Ecu's constantly foul. 100k lets hope these were already done.

Injectors and turbos have extended warranty. Water pump should be done ASAP if not done already. Same with the valve over. Check your solenoids for proper pressure; otherwise they're good. This engine with regular maintenance is an absolute beast. Enjoy!! |

I would change the trans and diff fluids if they have not been done asap, coolant and power steering also if never done. Probably needs a good walnut blast decarbon and the water pumps tend to fail around that mark, but then again some have gone much further.
Last version of the HPFP seems reliable, turbos are under warranty still as are the injectors. N54's properly maintained are great engines and really are not as unreliable as people make them out to be - it isn't a honda civic that goes 200k without an oil change, but it is a hell of a lot more motor and fun - just costs a bit more for the extra fun!

Injectors may not be under warranty, only after a certain manufacture date were the injectors under warranty used. I did not have them in my 07 so no injector warranty for me. Luckily I have not had any injector issues yet 60k miles.
