I have just got a rattle from the dashboard just above the glove box. It sounds like a screw is rattling around under the dash. When I bang on the middle of the dash board I can also hear it so it shouldn't be hard to reproduce the sound if I take it to the dealers. Has anyone else had this as I am not sure I want a mechanic to take my dash off incase I inherit another rattle when they replace it.

Ye i have this! Annoying! Not tried banging on the dash to replicate tho, only on certain roads at certain speeds and dealer cant replicate fault! Well miffed cant see a way to sort this...

Just found where mine is coming from Osh. It's the silver strip on the dash with the cut out around the vents, if I hold it down it doesn't rattle. Does anyone know if the dask will have to come off to attach this properly?

Right il have a mouch next time it rattles. Makes sense, sounded like it was coming from inside air vent, and sometimes drivers side air vent too.

The strip in the dash will just work off if you wedge something in the end and lift off - I used a chisel with a piece of plastic behind it to lever against - they are attached by metal pegs that secure in the dash against some high density foam/rubber. There is some work to do to unbolt the centre air vent from behind the piece of trim and remove the starter button - but there are plenty of DIYs for this on this forum.

Remove trim, reattach the starter button and take it for a drive to see if that is the cause.

Yahoo - Mine is the other side i.e the passenger side so won't have to move it from the starter button side.

The starter button is on the passenger side of the steering wheel aint it? tis on mine, so its in the same trim piece in question....

I had the dashboard rattle and it was coming from the silver trim creaking. BMW removed it and padded it with foam and things got better, it no longer flexed.

However, since then I have still got a few rattles. One is from the steering wheel or column that is a vibration type buzzing rattle on high grip/tarmac roads that is relaly annoying. The other I think is from the rear view mirror that cracks and creaks when its pressed together and I think that cracks when i hit bad roads. The last is one thats only just surfaced and it seems to be coming from the passenger side. I can't tell whether its something on the seat or underneath it, something in the passenger door or something from behind the glovebox as BMW have recently been tampering with the wiper relay bhind there.

Very annoying and it ruins the experience.

Who said BMW were quality cars?

The silver trim on my dash that is rattling starts at the passenger side and runs to the middle of the car.

No Osh I don't. Do u have the idrive sat nav screen as that's why our dash may differ?

Like everyone I hate rattles. I've got a bit of a dash creak in the centre console but no time to really try and solve it.

I did discover a terrible metal rattle noise that moved left to right as I went around corners. I won't tell you what I removed from the car to find it (still under warranty) but I eventually found £2.45 worth of silver coins underneath the thigh rest leather bit that was causing such a noise on the metal seat frame. This 'fix' only required the removal of the leather bit that easily pops out but it took me so long to find since any noise can be so hard to locate.

I've got that one as well. Ever since the stealer took my dash out (twice) to try and fix(unsuccessfully) my "A" pillar creak!

I had a similar noise from the glovebox area on coarse road surfaces. I took out the glovebox and wrapped felt tape around the metal dashboard supporting bar that holds the top of the glovebox up as the felt pads that were on there were not quite fitted correctly I think. This seems to have helped a great deal.

Ditto...mine went from something in the right hand side to opposite end when I took the car round a sharp bend bit quicker than anticipated. Haven't bothered taking it to dealership as audio is always on to drown it

today i started toget the 'rattle'. it sounds like it is coming from the centre of the dashboard up beside the windscreen. it only happens when i go over any minor bumps in the road while driving. it sounds like a bracket rattling or something. any help?

Try holding the rear view mirror. Mine sometimes rattles and because of its position it sounds like it's coming from the dashboard.

Rattles Rattles Rattles.
1. Use WD40 if you can on rear view mirror where it joins the holder.
2. i had dashboard rattle too but then i figured it out it was not dashboard but it was coming from cup holders and i use felt tape; one under the cup hold and other on the top,,rattles went away
3. Rattles from folding back seat, i used WD40 it went away
4. Rattles from doors. i wiped door plastic seals and seal where it meets the car,wipe both plastic trims with WD40, rattles went awat.
5. Rattles from Ashtray; take out ashtray plastic piece, spray with WD40, leave it for few minutes, wipe it down and put it back, rattles went away.

No more interior rattles in my car

I think I have an interior rattle.

When I take a right turn (like a roundabout) at more than walking speed I get a squeaky rattley sound from the front passenger side of the car.
I though this was maybe suspension, but the more I listen to it the more I think its in the cabin.

Going to take a look behind the glove box and see if I can see the source.

I have been hunting my Dash rattle down... I had to take off the wood trim and when you do, you will see some nuts that fasten the dash to a metal frame. you can take ratchet and I think its a 13mm. youll need an extension but if you tighten these 4 nuts that could be your culprit.. My rattle is coming from the center so I get to try to find that but when I tightened those, it got much better.. so Im on the right track

I had a very annoying rattle coming from the passenger side of dashboard.
I have taken out
-cup holders
-glove box
-airbag trim
And looked for solutions and no avail.
It stopped when I changed my dashboard to accommodate the CIC navigation.
Rattle disappeared and it was my old dashboard.
I looked at my old dashboard carefully to see what was it buy could not establish the fault.
Happy as no rattling.
