Experience of Audi A3 2010

Guys
One of my friend has been given a company car and he is selling his 2010 Audi A3 @ 70K miles.

Anybody with first hand experience / or as a company car?

It is Sports trim with standard (mono colour) nav. No leather, or bose sound system either.

Thanks.

Diesel/Petrol, 1.6 or 2.0?

Assuming it's a diesel we see a fair few also Golf's one of the biggest single issues we see with these cars are EGR a issues, if it needs replacing then VAG Group modified these in 2011, 2012 and later on in mid to late 2013(multiple supersession part)they are aware of issues, it's a water cooled EGR and they are aware of the problems customers face with them.

Turbos on the diesels aren't too bad(they are a variable vein design)and with mileage lack of exercised driving shall we say they can play up as the turbocharger veins don't alter their geometry accordingly. You'll pick up a lack of power low down, EML light will be present and a corosponding fault code.

DPF's as per BMW, really in fact any diesel can come about with age/mileage but thats to be expected with a diesel I guess, Cambelt service schedules on the lster cars altered in terms of engine spec some run upto 133k from memory(VAG Group removed the time frame(years scope) off the latest handbook agenda and simply stated mileage)remember thst at the same time you replace the waterpump as well.

They suffer as we've seen from various wiring gremlins thst effects all manor of control units and components, if you are well versed in wiring continuity and the time consuming practice involved with carrying out this process then you'll love these cars when you get problems.

MPG wise though they are very good 2.0 on the diesels quite fiesty the 1.6 is still fairly quick they are very comfortable too.

If it's a petrol coils, injectors, carbon contaminated inlet manifolds(flaps in the manifold get coked up and don't actuate)are fairly common, throttle body's can play up and you can get a good few wiring issues again on these. o2 sensors can play up VAG Group have modified the sensors and the plugs and would you believe it you've got to carryout a bit of a wiring modification to marry the two up, VAG Group sell everything parts wise seperatly would you believe it.

Known injectors to not shut down(leak)on the TSI's when this happens dumps fuel in to the CAT essentially loads of white smoke poor out the exhaust and it usually kills the exhaust sensor as well seen a few of these now.

As an ownership proppersision they offer a fair bit back and I can understand why people buy them, in later life though I've seen them chew some money in style, but no more than a 318i in theory, just more than I'd like to see especially on investigation work into problems.

One thing you'll discover on these cars, in fact any VAG Group car is how far technology wise they are behind BMW for instance, the mere fact that to find a problem you have to spend an age dong continuity tests should tell you what you need to know on that front Sam therefore when I get a booking got a VAG Group car with issues I normally wince

Thanks Steve. You are a star.
It is diesel indeed and 2L. I am reading some oil pump failure on Audi cars but not sure if 2010 A3 would get redesigned oil pump.

So EGR valve, turbos and wiring issues. Thanks.

Ive seen oil pump failure but not on the 2010 era year, hence I didn't post it, seen these issues on 2005/08 era vehicles but yes again have heard of issues but later vehicle wise never in our workshop as yet come across it.

I had a 61 plate one in Ibis White, great car, handled really well but was the 1.6 TDi version & was the most gutless car I have ever driven, I imagine a 2ltr would be much better

Thanks guys. Drove it for two days. I think 2 litre is under powered IMO. You have to drive it hard to get acceleration out of it. I feel that my 2.2 honda accord has more shove > 50MPH where audi A3 takes forever to accelerate.

Plus point is that I am super impressed with their standard sound system and it is not even bose. It sounds extremely good compared to standard beamer sound systems.

Some annoying features include giving the name of the road on the speedometer. If you want mpg there, then you have to change the display every time you start the car. Worst bit is that no pdc and its add on.

It is okish car. I am not sure yet but if mrs like it, I may buy for her.

which 2l diesel is it? I believe at that year they had the 110, 140 and 170. before that it was only 140 and 170 and I had both and thought they are pretty nippy cars so surprised you think its underpowered

It was 140BHP. If you follow the gear change indicator then you drive like granny.
Follow your instincts and drive hard to get reasonable acceleration. Still no comparison to 520d which I had (in terms of acceleration).
