Drive Train Malfunction
Hello everyone!
I have 2020 m8 competition f92. The issue I’m facing is when accelerating hard and shifting from 3rd to 4th the car throws a drivetrain malfunction and goes in limp mode I scanned it and got dtc 120308 & 120408 If I restart the car it goes back to normal performance but the drivetrain malfunction error remains and after driving a while it just disappears. I have MHD stage 1 tune and valvtronics exhaust (stock dps) The error happens while on stock tune. I took my car to the dealer and they informed me the car would need a new engine!! Even though it runs fine otherwise I’m visiting them tomorrow to see whats going on. Has anyone run into similar issue or have any advice? I also inspected the engine pay and can’t see any coolant leaks or any cracks in the intake pipes |

I would take it somewhere other than a dealer, especially since you have minimal mechanical understanding of these cars (based on the information you relate). Even if the dealer ends up being right, you will pay them $50k to put a new engine in. A good independent could put a used engine in for $15k or a rebuilt for $25k.
