Oil Leaks and Turbo refurb

Hey Guys.

I've recently found that my turbos are leaking oil through the oil line gasket. I'm planning to pull them out and do a rebuild and install some high flow compressor wheels. I'm balling on a budget so please don't flame. Do you think these would be beneficial?

Do you think I should get a shop to do this or tackle this myself? For those of you who have had your turbos taken out and refitted. How much roughly should I be expecting to pay?

Go for it I reckon, I do everything on my car myself and would rebuild the turbos myself also. I think people have been quoted around $1500 for turbo replacement labour?

In regards to the Kinugawa parts I know that the Skyline drivers love them but that could just be because they are cheap, if I was going to the effort of pulling the turbos out I would get the genuine Garrett (?) stuff if available.

im not sure if garrett would have upgraded compressors for our housings. there is another alternative called batmowheel but a member on n54tech said that thers little to no gains

Are you planning to DIY turbo removal Nate?? It's a big job, and imo isnt a novice DIYer task...

I would prefer to pay a pro to do this, as lets say you bust your arse and get it done then you have issues with your DIY rebuild.

You will then have to pay a pro to rectify your mistakes (they will have to remove the turbo's all over again) when you could have just taken it to them in the 1st place.

But having said that I would love you to prove me wrong and have a cheap DIY rebuild

Yeah Armadyllo had his wastegates fixed and turbos high-flowed for not too much by ATP.

hahaha DR i would love to pay for it to be done but id rather diy and get some experience out of it. I did my Dp myself and save $400. I know turbos is a way bigger job but if i have the right tools then it shouldnt be too hard. Im planning to take them out, get them pro rebuilt then reinstall them.

I have not tried ATP timmy but GCG wanted $2500 for both and this other place wants $1300 each. That is to high flow and bigger compressor.

There is a member here who did a diy turbo install without a hoist - i cant remember who to be exact.

U planning on using a hoist?

i got a mate that has a hoist down the road from my house in his dad's cabinate making workshop. i did my dp in there.

Understand wanting to tackle he labour component yourself, but stay away from cheap components with anything related to turbos. You'll also need the wheels VSR balanced etc..

i understand that factor captain. the fore mentioned company seems reputable on other platforms. I plan to take out the turbo then send them off to a local experience workshop to have to rebuild and balance the new turbine wheels and i will re install the turbs

Just do it!

Turbo swap is time consuming and some bits are difficult.

Keep the money you have and diy it.

Someone will always help if you get stuck

You could very easily re-core your own turbo's and save some dollars! This is all the shop would do anyway. Also has billet wheels for a little more flow

Does that price include fixing the wastegates?? If so, then that is a pretty good option for the money!
How many mm's are the highflowed wheels??

Isn't the waste gate just need adjusting. I found some billet ones for $400 USD a set. I'm sure I could source some oem ones for a fraction of the cost

If you have a second car, and don't need to rely on your 335i, I'd try DIY.

If you have to get it back together to go to work on Monday... maybe don't.
