M240i or 230I Full Tune

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey Guys,
I bought 2 months ago bmw 230i.

I was make big mistake to buy 230i, i was belive same supra 2.0 power. but after i noticed that supra use Bmw Z chasse. So not bmw 230i g42

I need to advice.

1. buy M240I and done for 54K
2. Tune!

B16 suspension 2600K
Big Tires 1800K
Tuned Engine 1500
Stage 3 1000-2000K
Big Brake 1000K
Total Labor 1500K
So totally around 8K

If I go wiht M240I:

I paid my car 47K
The market offer me 41K for my car.
54+ tax 6000 = 60K

61-41= 20K

So, 20K pay and get m240i or 8K save my car.
Of course big question is warranty void.

What you think guys?

I would get the M240i 100% and modify it later. It has much more potential than the B48 in the 230i

my finance situation is tight budget, that the reason I was bought 230i,
but when i consider them 240i looks like M adaptive suspension just 4-5K if you wanna add after market. so V6 and better brake, Awd.

All of them they sell very good amount money. so that the reason i just want to jump m240i

My purpose, same like a sport car. firm and safe ride, hard corner push to gas pedal and go some times track if i have time.

tbh, it looks like you might have a better experience buying a used M240i after selling your 230i. however, you will still be taking a hit finance-wise as the 230i has a lower retail than a used M240i. also, the insurance might also be higher as well for the M240i so who knows how the actual difference ends up to be.

if you are able to finance the car with a good rate, even though you might be taking a hit, it might be worth it if you truly desire the M240i. but you also said you have a tight budget so... talk to some people you trust and decide from there.

Actually I'm really happy with 230i, its really enough for city.
but I tested m240i and I got the taste

So, That the reason I was assume if I upgrade suspension and tune maybe I will get same feeling without paying extra 20K. because I paid already the sales Tax 5K. and if i buy again pay again the sales tax

but thank you remind me also insurance.

Why you decided its not the same? Supra has same 255hp engine and 8 speed ZF. As I see, same suspension and brakes for 230 (with m sport) - m240 - Supra. Difference just between adaptive/non-adaptive. Same wheel sets for 230 and m240. (Except ZTK package, of course).
But for 230 you can use
- any coilovers without coding and issues
- any tire sizes and ratios
- add good brake pads and it will be enough
- plus 230 lighter
Of course, if your car isn’t very-very base with nothing.

The only differences is chassis. they are use different body, bmw g42 using old bmw 3's chassis. But Supra using same platform with Bmw Z series. So supra is actually Bmw Z. Anyway.

your tune setup very safe and cool! only the problem the engine! 230i is heavy. its not sport car.

If you open parts diagram, you’ll see they even have same control arms.

I would just trade it for a 240. That way, you keep the factory powertrain warranty and have a really good platform to tune if you decide to do so. If power is sufficient, then you are all set!

Two options:

1) Keep your 230i and do a stage 1 tune. (Yes, this will void your warranty.) Spending $8k on all those mods is A LOT and when you eventually sell you won't get your money back on them.

2) Buy a M240i X-Drive. $20k is the incremental amount you'll have to spend now, but you will be able to sell a M240i X-Drive for more than a 230i whenever you decide to sell years from now. Therefore, $20k is the additional amount you're spending now, but you will get some of that money back, taking into account depreciation, when you sell.

I would sell the 230i and buy a M240i X-Drive.

I mean, some people says 230i better handling. So i was thinking 200 lbs. lighter. also tuned stage 2 or 3 then this car will be more sporty car but end of the day looks like M240i good choice.

the big things, Adaptive suspension, LSD, and V6

I think it worth it to buy m240i.

If your budget is tight, you should probably keep what you have…

Yes, people have reported that the 230i handles better due to the lower weight. You can order a 2023 M240i RWD which would save weight by not being AWD. You should also consider how much you'll really be able to feel that difference based on your own driving style.

The M240's have an inline 6 motor, not a V6.

I tested 2 times.
first at slow speed i didn't noticed any thing.
but I feel handling better also awd amazing. very good traction. I feel more confident. break feel was heavy but the car come with cooler pack. that means bigger caliper and disc.

But overall i like handling better than 230i also more agrasive. the engine power really I like it. its like rocket

you know people talking but Im sure they dont have even 230i or they never tested 240i they just assuming.

Have you made a decision on what you're going to do? Are you going to buy a M240?

The new g42 will come with curve screen. that was i like it.
but i have already 230i, so m240i not make me really exciting because heavy traffic in LA, i can drive max 30 mile speed LOL.

Im trying to sell my car. if i sell good price then i can buy it! but still the g42 not make me really exciting because it will be same looks, i will only get firm and nimble car. I wish buy new Porsche 718 re design. but looks like it will come 2024 summer. so i don't know what im gonna do it
