I still don't understand the purpose of the dual connection. . .
Can someone explain it to me.
You can play and control your iPod with just the usb pluged in. . . What is the point of plugging in the other cord?

The USB connection is for mp3 and other "unprotected" audio formats... in order to play the DRM'd AAC files purchased through itunes, the BMW controls and communicates to the iPod through the docking connector, as well as gets analog audio out (line level)... the audio out then goes to the cars audio aux in jack. In short, the ipod is still doing the playing/decoding... the car is remote controlling it and reading its file lists using the USB... hence the dual connection.

just chiming in... to the people who are wondering if it allows you to control the ipod from the idrive and play the ipod playlists and such, yes it does. i have the same connector with my ipod and it allows me to do both.

wait...that looks like a line in connection...do you just plug that into the jack in the center console thing and the other end into your ipod and you can control on iDrive? that doesn't seem right. sorry for my ignorance...please clarify.

+1 i was looking at this and it doesn't look like this cable would allow you to switch songs with your idrive

no, it seems bmw oem ipod control cable.
1) ipod detecting as "ipod accesory"
2) idrive, handle remote control function is working.
3) displaying the song titles and playlists in idrive or deck
4) vehicle's control function using usb connection in Y cable, ipod battery recharging
5) audio output using AUX cable in Y cable (sound sucks)
6) you can't use additional aux input (which means if you fetching additional aux on bmw communication port in trunk directly )

Note: I never received the item from this seller. It may have been lost in the shipping, but when i inquired seller simply stated "it should be there". He never even sent any follow up emails after I had paypal dispute it.

I also have not received my cord. Sent 50$ through paypal over 3 weeks ago. I recently pm'd the seller and received no response. If I don't not get a response I'll just contact my cc company and reverse the payment. I will also send the the info from this sellers paypal to the local police and file a fraud claim against this seller.

I highly suggest refunding my money or be prepared to deal with me. I have not received any tracking or proof that it was even shipped. Now that I saw another person has not received their cord is leading me to believe it's not coming.
