Oil Filter Housing and Heat Exchange Replacement
Hey everyone,
I'm looking for some guidance here, my car about a week ago lost all its coolant and i've come to find out its the Oil Filter Housing and heat exchange. The dealership quoted me nearly 5k(Ill attach it below). I see the parts online from anywhere from $200-$600. What do you guys think and or what are my options? |

I had the same issue recently. The car lost all the coolant rapidly. I needed the car and could not fix it myself in at that time. I had an email discount coupon from the dealer. Here is the cost for replacing the filter housing, new coolant and an oil change.
Labor: 2447.04 Parts: 705.97 (oil filer housing 11-42-8-596-283 is 475.33) Misc: 28.95 Coupon: -322.60 Tax: 43.98 Total: $2903.34 The repair was done by United BMW in Atlanta. I think your quote is too high. |

thanks, I agree that quote is way higher than others i've seen. What are your thoughts as this for the replacement part? I think I'll just do it myself as all of my other quotes I've gotten are 3k plus. https://www.bimmerworld.com/Engine/B...g-B46-B48.html

Mine failed at 60,390 miles. I do not understand why BMW is going to plastic for these vital engine components. With heat and ageing, the plastic is going to fail. When I am getting near 120k miles or year 2030, I have to order another oil filter housing and hopefully it is not plastic this time.

BMW is probably taking the word of whatever company that supplies the housing that it will withstand the heat, while said company is probably taking the word of the manufacturer of the plastic. If this ends up going to class action the blame buck passing will be epic. Keep your receipts, this could be another N20 timing chain scenario.
