Need to find a 12v switch that only comes on after pressing lock button.
Long story long, I’m trying to install a remote starter into my E92 that is a 6 speed manual. I have the remote started working and everything, but I have installed a relay to prevent the car from starting when it is in gear or when the emergency brake is not on.
Everything works great if I power the relay to a 12V all the time wire. The Problem is when the relay is on an active 24/7 it will slowly drain the battery. I really need to find a fuse or wire somewhere in the car that only sees power after pressing the lock button on the remote control. One idea that I had was trying to tap into the illumination LED behind the start stop button that comes illuminated when you press the lock button for about two minutes. This would’ve been perfect except there’s no way for me to tap into that light source from what I can tell. Please let me know if anybody has any ideas. I’ve also thought about a latching relay. I’ve never installed a latching relay, but it’s the only thing left for me to try if I can’t find a switched 12V source. Any other 12 V switch wire like the ignition or accessory wire has not worked for me because I need to be able to get power to this relay before those wires receive power in order for the remote start sequence to work. Hopefully this all makes sense and someone has an idea… I’m so close. I just don’t want to drain the battery if I don’t have to. Last edited by Beasters; 10-29-2024 at 04:23 PM.. |
