Some shots from my trip out west: Vegas/Bryce/Zion/Cars and Coffee, including HDR!

Finally getting a handle on my Nikon D5000; shot using the kit 18-55mm, Nikkor 55-300mm, and Nikkor 50mm 1.8 (love this!). HDR using Photomatix. Picked up a 1.75lb SLIK travel tripod which collapsed to only ~18" long and was a breeze to pack and hike with.

I'm a midwesterner, so the mecca of burgers was of course my first stop off the plane.

We stayed at the Bryce Canyon Lodge, so our cabin was literally 1000 ft from the rim! Made getting up at 6am for the sunrise (unfortunately cloudy both mornings) a little easier. Sun came out later though!

A side note, the drive into Zion from the east has one of the most fantastic roads in terms of view and twisties! Our rental base RAV4 was less than fantastic.

Nice pics. That road is the one that goes through the tunnel with the window? Lots of nice roads out there. We had a Caddy, which was nice for most of the driving, but I was dying for my E39 in the twisties.

Here's that window from the tunnel on the road into Zion. They knew how to build cool roads back then.

Yeah the tunnel was intense! Had traffic going one way at a time though since they were doing construction, and I guess the tunnel isn't tall enough for large vehicles to go through without being in the middle of the road.
