Is this a preview of the new BMW? Sales decline and cars that drive more like luxury cars than ultimate driving machines. People seem to be trying out other brands. Might be wrong.

BMW needs to rethink their strategy of dropping perks that loyal customers have enjoyed for years like MSD, 4 yrs/50k mike Ultimate service, ridiculous residuals, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason for the decline is because people are leaving the brand.

What I find interesting is that the numbers seem to always bear out that scott26 is constantly lying to us. A reflection on how bmw treats its best customers. Smart companies like Apple, Google, Tesla actively court their enthusiasts and reliable customers. We advertise for bmw far more in the long term then any advertising campaign and well it looks like the chickens are coming home to roost.

The collective forum knowledge seems to usually be spot on.

I'm sure scott will chime in on how mercedes is doing worse (nope not true) or something else equally false and irrelevant to Bmws lineup.

The total sales figure are one thing and profits are something else.

I'm sure profits are fine.

From our point of view, the distribution here is a little worrysome and I always wonder why bmw doesn't court us and the general public at the same time ? Mercedes will make ultra rare super sports cars at the same time as mushy vans, even though one may not be as profitable it seems they want to have all bases covered.

Here it seems bmw chases highest possible profit ?

BMW group sales YTD is down a mere 2.8%... so I wouldn't go too far out on that limb...

3rd straight month that the sales program by BMW financial has gotten worse. Money Factor keeps increasing and the residuals are low. The aforementioned discontinuation of the MSD program and now the Fleet Corporate program is dropping from a $1,500 lease incentive to only $500 next month (also they are dropping AARP off the program at the end of May) means I don't see a good sales forecast for the rest of the year.

BMW please get your act together

I wish this list gave the sales numbers for all the models and trims including the M cars and just the series.

Mercedes puts in the capex and other costs like research. Bmw making safety cars for marketing mperformance products. Mercedes doing f1 with niki lauda and Hamilton.

Auto sales have risen steadily for the last years in the US and they are likely hitting a peak. Many automakers are worried about losses from high residuals given on leased vehicles when they come back because used values are going to take a hit. The changes BMW has made recently in leasing are likely in anticipation of this:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...-used-car-glut
Also, 57% of BMWs are leased, so the exposure is significant:

Maybe if BMW could stop putting out "special editions" models of the same car constantly we would see a shift. Whats next? BMW M4 GTS CS Nurnburging driver edition? With only 10 special models available, and you will be paying thru your nose just so you can have 10 more bhp or some special edition springs and shit like that.

If BMW could stop with that and actually release one car with one mid life LCI change and that is it, and make it perfect from the start then move on to the next model. I honestly think all this "special editions" models are just a way for BMW to get rid of their stockpile of "old" engines & parts until new one arrives and call it special editions and sell it to people as "New".

Its like the meat scandal we had in Sweden witch i believe is still going on where they took old meat re-branded the date on them and sold them as "Fresh" meat.... Or when they sold horse meat instead of Beef meat to schools and shit like that.

I don't think most people even know what a MSD is so I doubt it will have any effect.
