So less than two months for OP to get his VIN... is this a sign that production is moving faster?

I’m surprised everything is progressing so smoothly. I’m going to need to get myself in gear and find a set of winter wheels and tires.

Was almost 7 months to the day for me to pick mine up. I picked up on Halloween. Love it! A little upgrade from my 2014 Nissan Sentra SR!
Ceramic Coating appt mid November. Not sure how to post pics, or I would post before and after pics of c coating. I have seen few people do that comparison on this board. That I have seen anyway.

@SeandG42 First, be sure to be in "Advanced" for replying.

Click the paperclip to attach. Choose file, upload, close that window, post reply. All set!

Really interested in seeing the differences. I opted to not do this for the time being.

Will post before and after ceramic coating pics when I have it done...in a different thread though. Below pic from when I picked up at dealer on Halloween. You can see the old Sentra in the background....I kept her for crappy days/months here in Nebraska.

not necessarily, it all depends upon if/when there is an open allocation for an order. You can get a VIN almost immediately if you order on an open allocation, on the other hand you may wait 3 months for a particular dealer to get an allocation. Allocations are not necessarily based on production speed. It may be a reflection of anticipated production but it also varies by past dealer performance etc, some dealers get many, some very few.
One indicator of production speed is the time from VIN assignment to shipping. I found the wait for a shipping carrier to be longer than the production time. For a while cars were being held up during production waiting on critical parts(mostly audio related)...dunno if that is still happening.

Thanks for the info. Informative. I was wondering and kinda thought allocation or the number of allocation a dealer gets could depend on size and performance of the dealer.

I live in the Ft. Laud area and I think about to commit to putting an order but I have a few dealerships near me which one might have a better chance of getting allocation sooner. thx.

Frankly i would not commit to an order till i positively found a dealer with an open order that i could latch onto....unless of course all the dealers around you have a wait list for potential orders. Still i would try to find an allocation within 500 -700 miles or so.

Thanks. Don't really understand how ordering system works or how dealers get their allocation of cars. But I do wanna try to find a dealer that can get an order fulfilled sooner than the others in area.

So if I go to a random dealer of the 3 near me, like Ft. Laud BMW and they take my order for a M240i, they may just take my order but never get an allocation for one for rest of year and not tell me? But BMW Pompano a tiny dealer down the street but may have allocation next month?

Do dealers usually know how many they will get in a year or when their next allocation is? When I was in Clearwater the advisor suggested I put in an order but coulnd't give me an idea how long the wait was... but wanted my $2500 non-refundable deposit.

Thanks for the info you provided so far.

Sounds like to me that the dealer in Clearwater wanted to put you on the waitlist, not that they had an allocation. When you speak to a sales rep, you should ask if they have open allocations for the upcoming month *or* if they have a car being built that someone has abandoned. I'm with the others in this thread - I would not put yourself on a waitlist at this point. In my case, I wanted time to save $$$ to put towards financing the car, so I was okay with a longer wait to take delivery at a dealership that is in-state.

You also could look on autotrader to see if there are some slightly used cars that tickle your fancy, though the price is so close to new you may as well not...

Thanks. Gives me an idea of what to look for and how to ask the sales rep.

I would look used market but as you said the used prices are crazy not far off new it just doesn't seem worth it. Haven't checked for used M240i but my sis recently bought a new X5 and was looking used and she mentioned it was crazy and not much off of new prices.

I don't blame you - right now, buying new makes way more sense!

When I was searching initially to replace my GTI, I was thinking used, 4-5 years old, less than 40k miles... same process I took when buying said GTI back in 2016. Then I saw how crazy used car prices were/are!

Once i found a dealer with an open allocation,
the time from when i placed the order, to my pick up at the dealer was 67 days. That included a hold on the vehicle after it was built for a audio related component that was in short supply at the time. (2022 M240x)

Sold my 2020 M2C recently and I'm now looking for a 2023 M240, checked my closest dealer but have not confirmed if they have an allocation or waitlist.
CA said +/- 6mths. to delivery.
Planning on having it delivered at the Performance Center in SC, anyone done this?
Also, if I do the PC delivery I can call dealers nationwide to find a allocation.
What do you guys think?
