Coming from the track, its pretty apparent that these cars are really robust, much more than I thought beforehand.
I'm a bit skeptical it'll hold up on track when adding ~25% more power to a MT. I foresee it cooking the clutch unless they've upgraded it. Could potentially also damage the synchros as well as other components from all the additional torque and heat that will get generated. Guess time will tell. Hope I'm wrong, a 600hp MT M2 that's reliable would be epic.

The key from a software perspective is to limit the torque output to 600Nm to not put any limit on the transmission design life. This will allow a 452kW / 606bhp output at 7,200RPM.

There has to be a way to reinforce the clutch for longevity!!!

The clutch should be fine if torque is kept in check. I think it would have a very long life if kept to the transmission 600Nm ZF design limit, no matter what the power output. The engine tuning to give a torque plateau at 600Nm from about 3,000RPM to the redline at 7,200Nm would give over 600bhp. The clutch life / clamping force to overcome is determined by torque transmitted, as opposed to engine power output.

Supposedly the 7,200RPM redline is determined more by the ZF8 auto limitations than the engine itself. With a 90mm stroke, it could probably rev to 8,000RPM on stock internals (the S54 had a 91mm stroke and 8,000RPM rev limit). If the engine had the torque plateau of 600Nm to 7,600RPM before dropping off to an 8,000RPM redline, it would have a very nice linear power delivery to a maximum 478kW / 641bhp at 7,600RPM, leaving a 400RPM margin to perform a shift before hitting the rev limiter.

Long time TAG, hope you are well!
I'm no hate-r, I had/still have a deposit down actually. I would say I'm more of a meh-r. I SOOOOO wanted to love this car, I passed on 2 allocations last year, the second being for the new blue. I couldn't pull the trigger.
I ended up finding and paying cash for '17 performance edition w/Low miles here in IL, saved $37,000 (vs the carbon pkg G87) I then picked up a GT4 (price/condition almost too good to be true!!!!)
As hard as it was passing on the shiny matte finished new M2, it was the smartest move I have made in a while.
Installing a lift 4 post storage lift shortly so I can admire both the OG and the GT4 the same time. (yes i still have the RS4, but it's put away in semi-permanent storage
cheers to all of us finding and driving the cars we want!

I've had my G87 for a month now. I hated it in photos when it first came out, maybe it's a residual feeling from disliking the G-M3/M4's design even in person. I also hated that BMW ditched the DCT platform. Promised myself never to go M again. Went Porsche 997 for a while, loved it for a bit as it is such a gorgeous looking machine but the impracticality of it ate me up, it was just not it for me, at least as a primary car. I knew I was very happy when I had the F87 so I have to eat my words and looked at the G87 in person. Surprisingly, I really liked it. Appreciating the boxiness and star wars characteristics, reminding me of the E36/E30's but radical, so it was actually good in my eyes. Dealer happened to have a 2300 miler manual. I got to test drive it and initial thoughts felt really positive. The ride quality is very nice for a car designed for track. So I signed papers, took a chance but it had to be a manual with buckets though. Autos probably okay for newer M fans but not for me (just my opinion). All I can say right now is as my time progresses with her, its a rarity for me to be appreciating its design and application even more. It's a car I want to drive without reason to do so. I don't even feel like it needs any other mods to make it look better at the moment. I just like it for who she is and I can't wait to finish breaking here in.

First 5 pages of this thread were spicy/funny.

No clue why there’s this F87 vs G87 fight. Can’t wait to see one on the road and wave / flash lights. M2 gang.

(I’ve seen G87 in person at dealer and they even let me test drive it. Just haven’t seen one out on the road. My fav part of the looks are the giant exhaust tips)

I’m like you, I appreciate every car around. That’s why I consider myself a car guy… I’ve gotten in “trouble” once in college because I was walking around back to my campus and checking out the interior of every car to see if they were manual… security guard thought I was casing and asked if I went to school there lol
