It is a nice car though.
The flares look way more like an E30 M3 than the F87 ever did—-it has heavy boxed flares with a sharp vertical cut like just like the E30 M3—unlike the F87 which had very soft, small, gradual flares.

But be happy you don't need to register this car in France where the environmental registration tax 'malus écologique' will be €50K in 2023 for the 6MT (CO2 of 226-230) and €40K-€45K for the ZF8 automatic (CO2 of 218-222). Or in The Netherlands where the 'BPM', 'registration tax, 'readying cost' ('kosten rijklaar maken') and 'recycling tax' is over €44K for the 6MT and almost €40K for the ZF8.
'Malus écologique' tariffs applicable in France for 2023: https://www.largus.fr/actualite-auto...-10982397.html
Considering VAT and environmental registration taxes charged in several European states, US forum members over here shouldn't complain too much about the price charged in the US for this car. Seen from a French or Dutch perspective, this car is a bargain in the US.
Mais ils sont fada ces Français. Good lord. I feel for them.

Not too bad, but black hides all the little details like the diffuser et al.

Which in this case can be either good or bad.

I, too, felt the E9X was the weakest of the bunch despite owning three of them myself. Of all of the ///M's I've owned over the last 22 years, the E9X was my least favorite and the only one I never think about. Conversely, I have a huge affection for my E46 ///M3's - my favorite being my previous '05 Interlagos Blue ZCP ///M3 - and both of my F8X M4's.

I bought an '04 M3 new, added the Vorsteiner CSL aero kit, drove it 45K miles and thought it was the bee's knees design wise... until the F82 came long.

I wanted to like the E92 just like I wanted to like the G82, but both have such slab sided designs I just could never pony up the cash for either. Front ends are also not boxy.

All M3/4s should have a boxy design so the G87 shows promise. I'm looking forward to how the CS version looks in the flesh.

People like what they like. /end

I had the OEM CSL CF interior door pieces and center console, all sourced from Crevier BMW. I loved my '05!!!

Here are some really shitty pictures of my first E46 ///M3, an '03 Phoenix Yellow/Imola Red combo.

Yea but the upside is It is also easier to hide scratches and flaws with BSM.. The random metallic flakes in the paint blends in very well with touch-up paint or throwing some carbon fiber over the imperfection, in my experience.

I don't have the best eyes, but I can easily see swirl in that black paint

You don't have to PPF the whole car, but putting a ceramic sealant on there I think is a must after doing paint correction

If anything the 1M had E46 vibes. I always thought the F87 was more 1st Gen M4 vibes!

but alas design perception is subjective!

Phoenix Yellow E46 M3 reminds me unfortunately of "MK Boy" (real name Simon Driscoll) of the BMW M3 community two decades ago. If my memory serves me well, late 2001 a driver entered his lane. He took evasive action with his Phoenix Yellow E46 M3 to avoid a head-on collision, swerved and fatally slammed into a lightpost. Simon and his girlfriend both perished. R.I.P.

Stay safe, folks.

Seeing BSM in real life with your own eyes, can make a difference: 'mean'/'cool' global impression - more details. Convinced that the G87 M2 in BSM will turn heads in a good way.

I'm currently not in the market for a 2023 G87 M2. But if that would be the case, I'd definitely opt for BSM (and my current car is BSM, so I know what it is to live with that hard-to-keep-clean color). Hypothetically speaking: if Mineral Grey would be made available at a later stage in the G87 M2 life-cycle, I would be in dubio between MG and BSM.
If I had a clean, fairly new Competition, I honestly wouldn't rush to the G87 either. The F87 still has a lot mainstay in the automotive market and all these cars have pretty much plateaued in perceivable performance and handling delta, unless you jump to something mid-engine or something with an exotic layout. The G87 is a good upgrade, when that sweet day arrives.

Did you share your opinion on the G87 yet? I'm in love with the specs and price but could take or leave the styling choices but it's not the end of the world..
