Never ordering a car because of reviews—-but I get it, that’s how you buy cars.

I feel these guys drive so many cars, they deserve a listen. The past year I’ve test driven 2 C8s and 2 718s, hardly a big control group. Savage geese and motomantv give straight up thoughts and they 100% steer me to some cars and away from others.

Savage said 2 awful things about the m2, “I feel dead’ and ‘I never wanted to drive the car when I had it”. That won’t stop me from buying a m2 (at 68k it’s almost free imo) but it def gives me a slow down.

Mark says that about 95% of the cars he drives. He's been doing this for so long that the only thing that gets him erect are the Porsche 4-liter cars. 99% of M2 drivers won't get to experience an all expenses paid trip to California to rip $300,000+ cars around a track for free. I genuinely do like Mark and Jack, but you have to listen very carefully to what they say and how they say it. They lean very subtly into sarcasm a lot of the time and they're still paid speakers for these brands. Otherwise they'll get cancelled by marketing departments.

I love SG but Mark is stuck in the 90s.

Which I get, someone has to be. I do agree that most cars have gotten a little too refined - even 911s - but it's not all necessarily a bad thing. Safety, crash standards, technology, comfort - all nice to have. Driving in of itself is still fun for some of us.

95%? More like 99% of the time. Only new cars that I recall that he loves are the Lexus LC500 (mostly because of its exhaust note) which he owns, Porsche 992, Cayman GT4RS and the C8 Z06. These cars all have one thing in common, they cost over $100k. It's safe to say anyone looking to get an M2 either can't afford or justify paying that much for a car. I know I can't justify it, but I can justify an M2 with mods.

I think they liked the toyota 86 too ? which is a great car and they did all the right things improving it off the last generation (kept weight down, large displacement engine so the entire powerband improves, better styling).

making a car fun and exciting doesn't have to cost money.

Yes, he 'liked' it, but I'm talking about cars he 'loved'.

I had one. People like the GR86 because it's cheap and has low cost consumables. It's a good car for what it is and at the price point - which honestly, is admirable for today's day and age. RWD, 6MT, $30,000. However, you do get what you pay for. The engine is far from good by sports car standards, the interior is quite literally LEGO black plastic, the car has almost no refinement, and to be honest, you have to modify it to truly maximize the feeling and performance. Jack and Mark even admit as much. In their last video with the GR86, they admitted they went well over $40,000 in total just to make the car more enthusiastic and track-able, which leaves you very close to Mustang, Camaro, 400Z, Supra 2.0 money. You have to want a GR86, it's not exactly desirable - like an M car, or a Porsche.

Yes and of course, it's a harsh ride, loud and bumpy. It's not a pleasant car to daily drive in traffic, it's not a good car for long road trips.

The G87 is good at these things. The G87 (and M cars in general) are jack-of-all-trades cars trying to do a lot of things well. That's their biggest strength... and weakness.

i agree. i had a 86 as a daily and it was terrible on long highway drives. not because of steering but because of the terrible nvh. i secretly hope they make a higher end lexus version with a nice interior.

but what im pointing out is that there are cheap light cars with good fun steering, and heavy cars with good steering too. E39 M5 was 4000 pounds, porsche taycan (4500 pounds) usually gets praises on its electric steering in reviews sayings its very 'porsche like'. Same with the alfa quad.

not sure why bmw always lags in this category since the f80 was introduced. they nail the braking, the engine is potent, and still offer a fun manual. but the steering, which is arguably the most important part of a fun driver's car, seems to be lacking.

100% agree. EPAS feedback on BMWs is kinda bad. One of the reasons I've never given up my E90, it was the last 3 series with hydraulic steering.
