What is my 328xi worth?

Hey guys, I am looking to sell or trade in my 2007 328xi and wanted to know how much it's worth. Edmunds and KBB say an excellent condition model is max $9K, but all the ones on cars.com are over $12K with my mileage and less options.

2007 328xi with 75K miles, BSM with black interior
Premium package
Cold weather package
Bi-xenon headlights

It does need some repairs and maintenance -
Oil filter housing gasket is leaking
Valve cover gasket is leaking
Possible leak at the oil pan gasket
Needs new shocks and rear brakes
Driver's side halo light is out
Passenger adaptive headlight is stuck turned right

What am I realistically looking at for a trade in or private party value?

Not entirely sure, but you may also want to check out the nada guides to evaluate your car again. I've always used NADA and has been a bit more accurate in reflecting real world value lol:

Good luck!

With all the issues it has, I think someone wouldn't want to trade or buy it in that condition.

With everything fixed and no leaking, I'd pay no more than $12k for it private party.

Trade in, you'll probably be looking at $8500-$10k and thats with all the issues fixed.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the replies. I may have to find an indy to fix the oil leaks and then try to tackle the lights myself.

I got about 10k for my 07 328 with 94k miles when I traded it back in 2013. My car was well maintained (no leaks and new OFG and VCG) and paint was nearly flawless. I did have to haggle a bit to get that price though.. First dealer I went to tried to low ball me with $7k.

BTW.. I wouldn't worry about fixing the leaks IF you are trading in. When my car was inspected they brought out a tech and he just walked around the car, looked under the hood for a minute, and scanned for codes. That was it... They didn't even ask me if the car had any issues.

Your car will be sold at auction once the dealer gets his hands on it so they really could care less if your car is leaking, since they won't be fixing any of that. They will just change the oil and put on new tires if need be.

I am sure trade in is less than 10k. You can find these cars all day long for under 10k on Autotrader. Trade in is probably closer to $5k. I am in Canada, so I know it does not compare completely, but I got my 330XI with the same options for near $6k from a dealer, and they still had made money on what they gave the original owner as a trade in. Only thing wrong with the car was it needed a windshield because it was cracked.

Unlikely any dealer is going to resell an 07, they will just dump it at the auction.

I agree.. An 07 won't fetch much these days. A dealer that offers him $7k would be really generous.

OP that amount of work will be in the thousands of dollars.. You'd be better off taking the $6 or $7k that the dealer will throw at you, and not have to worry about fixing anything.

No way will he get $10k for a trade for an 07 328. That model year would go straight to auction and if a lot is selling it then the price tag will be well under $10k. Just looked one up in NJ, 76k miles selling for over $8k on the lot.

Mightymouse is right on the money, right now his trade will be between $5-$7k.

All the 07s are selling under $10k right now..

I appreciate all the replies. I guess I won't know until I get a dealer to give me a price. At least now I won't be surprised if they offer $5K.

I was offered 9k for my 2010 335i with 68k miles back in October by a BMW dealer that was a joke anyway. Audi the same day offered me 13k. I am looking to get rid of it again hoping to get 13k.

I looked up auction values for 07 328xi sold in last few days. Here they are.

03/24/16 ALBANY Regular $7,000 105,634 Avg GRAY
03/23/16 SF BAY Regular $7,200 80,751 Avg GRAY
03/23/16 NJ Regular $8,300 98,312 Above RED
03/23/16 NJ Regular $7,900 86,702 Above WHITE

You should be able to get 7k at trade in.

No, it is great. Some sucker pays a fortune new and I score the car for pennies on the dollar a few years later.

You'll struggle to get over 10 with those issues. But I can assure you a week of DIY can tackle all of those problems.

The problem is time. With two kids, I didn't even have time to plastidip my kidneys

Thanks for all the advice though. Carmax offered me $6K for it and it's only valid for a week. I went to a different dealership and they said if Carmax can give me $6K, they would give me $7K if I bought the car I went to look at.

edit: Carmax also found an accident report from before I bought the car on the AutoCheck they ran. Surprisingly, this didn't show up on the CarFax I got when I bought it.

Ouch.. Well you could always try private. Or sell at $6k and cut your losses.

Good luck my friend

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I managed to get $6,600 on a trade in for a 2013 G37x sedan. I put it up on CL for $8K for a week and a half and only had one reply. I didn't want to wait months to sell it, so I cut my losses.
