Turbo Issues - Fault Code 30FE 3100
Hi all,
My car has been jumping into limp mode every time I accelerate hard around 4500 - 5000 RPM also has a rough jumpy idle during low RPM.. 800 - 2500 RPM The following codes pop out 30FE - Turbocharger - Charge air pressure too high 3100 - Boost pressure control deactivation Now let me give you a little info about my car... Its a 2009 (November Build 09) 335i with double clutch transmission. The car has Supersprint downpipes, JB3 with downpipe fix, Remus Quad Exhaust, Blow off valve.. I have been experiencing these codes on all Maps including Map 0.. Anyone had a similar case? Let me know..

Other codes from last week
30FE - Turbocharger, Charge Air Pressure Too High
3100 - boost-pressure control, deactivation 29CD - Misfirings, cylinder 1 29D2 - Misfirings, cylinder 6 29CC - Misfirings, several cylinders Fixed those two by adjusting DP FIX to 6 O'clock.. 29F4 - Catalytic Converter Conversion 29F5 - Catalytic Converter Conversion 2 Also had something regarding DME a while back dont remember the code..

see if the downpipe v-band clamps are interfering with the wastegate arm. this can cause the overboost and boost control codes you're seeing. if the clamps are in the way, just rotate them until the wastegate arm can move freely

jb3 is known to throw turbo codes depending on outside temp. change tune or upgrade to jb4....

Update: I removed the JB3 and the code is still coming up.... and now its getting worse.. at first it was just when I accelerated hard now its when I go up hill and when I accelerate moderately...
I video taped the Downpipe and the Wastegate arm during operation.. It doesnt seem to be interferring.. can anyone tell me if this looks ok...

Maybe your wastegate is stuck? Upgrade your turbos Or get them fixed.

i thought the same thing, sticking wastegates seem way less prevelant on this platform than others but are still a possibilty. Im not sure but i think its possible to log Requested WGDC and Actuall WGDC to see if there is an issue there.

Updates:
After long analysis of the car we decided to bypass the turbo's pressure converter number 4 on the picture.. and the waste gate started operating normally.. opening and closing.. So now the fault is one of two things either the pressure converters are bad or the JB3 activates the waste gates to fully open at all time causing the car to over boost.. Keep in mind I have removed the JB3 from the car before running these tests.. Would the JB3 have any effects on the ECU after removal? Am I supposed to reset something?

are you throwing the same overboost code without the jb3?

I heard the death siren when your turbo spooled in that video.

Sorry but that didn't sound normal. My RB's are much louder than stock and don't even make that much noise. OP, what do they sound like at WOT? It's hard to tell from just a rev. Do you see any blueish-white smoke coming out your exhaust pipes or hood?

it's possible your solenoid (#4 in the diagram) has gone bad. these do fail occasionally. the other possible problem could be the vaccuum line going to that solenoid is clogged or disconnected |

also, if you've removed the jb3 and are still getting the same issue, it's not related to the tune. once the jb3 is removed, it leaves no perminent changes to the ecu, wastegate, solenoid, etc. settings

The vacuum is there to CLOSE the wastegates and generate boost. If the vacuum system fails, a hose or nipple is broken, or a solenoid valve sticks, then you get 30FF - boost pressure too low.
Bad MAP sensors? Any codes for intake pressure plausibility? Also, the wastegate shaft that goes into the turbo can wear and bind and may not be releasing properly, which would cause your excess boost problem. I have a customer car in the shop that has a low boost condition because the WGA cannot shut the rear wastegate.
