I haven't programmed any of the buttons yet.. are there some standard things people assign? this is my first BMW so i'm just getting used to the whole idrive system.. i must say i like the controller wheel a lot more than i thought i would..very intuitive

The first button is CarPlay then like 4 SiriusXM channels but after my year trial it will be just CarPlay

Instead of individual radio stations I bind the “Presets” menu to one button, then pick a station with the knob.

Lots of good options, just make sure to put the "call wife" button at the opposite end from the "call girlfriend" button....hate to get those confused.

I have 1 set for Apple CarPlay, then 7 for sport displays and 8 for tire vehicle status so I can see tire pressure and such while I'm driving. I've found reaching for 7+8 to be the comfiest when driving with your hand resting on the shifter. When the 240 gets here I'll probably use 6 for the drive recorder so I can access that easily if someone starts driving a little haphazardly around me.

You don't need a preset button for the drive recorder, hold down the panorama view button next to the shifter for 3 seconds and it will start recording

How do you set it to carplay Maps? When I do it it wouldn't allow me to set at apple carplay …

I keep changing it but this is the current settings.

1 sport displays
2 navigate to home
3 navigate to work
4 CarPlay home screen
5 ac menu
6 tire monitor
7 sound settings
8 HUD on/off

Dumb question - how do you set it to Sports Displays? If I have it on the displays and hold down (2) it won't set it up.

Do it from the screen before that. Not the displays themselves, but the menu where it says “sport displays”

Funny thing is that some of those buttons i won't use them superregularly so i'm starting to think on using just the 4 or so more used... or i will simply forget in which number was that function that i use just from time to time

I have seen myself somehow labeling the buttons but of course that'd ruin the beatiful aesthetics but would be useful to have some logos on them as long as they are cool.

Mine just got reset because my other key was dying and I had to switched keys so I might use some of these suggestions now lol

First press navigation on idrive controller
You will then get the menu as per photo so scroll to "Maps in Carplay" and with it highlighted press and hold the shortcut switch you want to use
The same applies for many other settings, just highlight what you want and press/select desired shortcut switch

If you need a reminder, put your finger on the button without depressing, it will show what it's set to.

You need to manually activate the recorder each drive? I thought this was supposed to replace a dash cam.

It activates automatically if you crash.

The BMW driver recorder DOESN'T replace by any means to a dash cam.

- You can activate it manually (pressing the button) and it can save upto 20 seconds before pressing the button and 20 seconds after

- If you crash it automatically saves pre and post crash

- You can only have 10 recordings

So no, it's not a dashcam replacement at all.
