100% stock. OG. No need to drop it…replace grills…look at it sideways, and with both eyes mostly closed….

We were thinking about it, even with the pedestrian ZF8 and no DCT - the M2 is my lady’s car, but she said no way to the new one….
I also read today that the new one will weigh 1700 kg. Is that confirmed? My god that’s heavy.

It'll weigh somewhere in that range, yes. BMW said it's between the weight of the outgoing M2c and the new M4. G82 and G87 are both on the CLAR platform, guess which one it'll weigh closer to.

Watching him explain his thoughts of his design on the M240i it will be interesting to see the follow up video when he explains his design elements for the M2. But looking at other videos explaining his other designs like the M Vision, or INext I kinda understand his design philosophy and can see how he implemented it in the 2 series (see the gloss black rocker on the M Vision that he likes to use on the M240i?). Just not sure if I agree with it for BMW cars.

So, I'm not a huge fan of the design. And yet, I'm still going to buy one.
To channel my inner Clarkson, 'I don't care if the back end is a bit rough. I don't buy a car so I can sit all day, staring dreamily at it's derrière. I buy a car so I can zoom past people, and make THEM stare at my car's backside. And this car let me do that quite comfortably.' |

My wife's first reaction on seeing the pictures. She's not an obsessive car person though loves good design and is generally considered to be someone with good taste (of course )
On seeing the front: Pause. Mmmmmm they've lost something in the front. On seeing the rear: [Grimace]. Oh no! On reflection: But why did they have to ruin something so perfect? |

BTW, I hear some of you guys were a bit of a handful at Eastern Creek a few days ago; I'm certain you weren't one of the mischievous ones, but did you see the near-miss?

Jokes aside, what a legend is Gavin? Amazing driving skills He told me he was a test driver for Porsche but has nothing but praise for the G82 M4 (and can't wait till he gets his hands on a CSL) He might do a private drive-by in the CSL with Aria behind him in the M2CS for a video shoot (but we have to go to Philip Island for that - what a shame, all that driving to get to pseudo-race between the M4CSL with the M2CS (said the man with a huge grin on his face salivating about the idea)

The rear section comments crack me up. The 2 series bumper has never had that "completed" look with an aggressive stance or length. The f87 rear looks like you just kicked your dog in the rear to get it out of your way and it hunches up and tries to run away.

To me what's odd about the new M2, aside from the obvious rear end and brutalists design approach, is how it bares little resemblance to the new 240i. Being in the same family, I'd expect both to have a common DNA. The front and back design are completely different; no design continuity. The new 240i, while a bit bold in appearance, could have been a great starting point for this car. Instead BMW went in a completely different design direction; the two vehicles now look like they belong in separate series IMO. In agreement with most here about the boot and rear bumper design, the front is plain and uninspiring but not too offensive. However, these darn ugly design features have a way of settling in our heads over time and becoming "cool" and "unique" and "aggressive". Never say never.
A big hello from rainy Miami.

I really hope the G87 LCI picks up more of the design of Jose's original sketches
