He said going with the single lamps gave him more room to play in the front which gave him the ability to make the kidney grills wider to give the front a wider look.
I think he did ok with using the grill to give the wider look while doing the omaje to the 2002 with the single lamp which they also used isn’t the 2002 Hommage. Quote:

I am okay with the front. It is the rear that irritates me. First it was the taillights and now it is the bumper cover. Fingers crossed that it is just the angle that the photos were taken at.

When the G87 was announced, I had an open mind and was comfortable with the potential scenario of giving up my F87 for it...now?? Forgetaboutit...im already eyeing some new wheels etc for my car...things I had shelved until I knew more about the G87... |

It also depends if you paid $65k or $55k for the car (M2C pricing).

Cool job. Does look good... I can be happy with both designs honestly if the went with the 3-series type lights. But single bulb is also interesting and unique.
Designer said in video he wanted a more rounded taillight. Don't remember if he meant like a single light to match the front?? But it sounds like he had to compromise. Sounds like he wanted to make it a unique little pocket rocket with some different elements from the rest |

I’ve never seen a brand just remove design elements, for which that marquee is known, and in such a Willy nilly kind of fashion. This car isn’t pretty, but quad headlights would have certainly helped the front end’s looks. Wonder why they didn’t use inspiration from the 2002 for a single tailpipe too. That might have helped the rear. I mean, why not just make the front end look like this?

Lol, yeah not in weight. And actually I haven't taken a look at the tape for length compared to the 3 Series. But suppose to be the smallest current BMW model and the B58 in the M240i makes it at least a rocket

I don't believe dual projects would work well on this body style, as there isn't enough real estate to comfortably accommodate dual beams/DRL without it appearing bloby.. They would be too close to each other, without almost no diffusion. Also, cost-cutting wise, the LCI 2 Series will more than likely end up with similar looking headlights just with the DRL inverted. BMW is phasing out the laser light option in exchange for an advance matrix setup. So there will be a base adaptive version or upper-tier matrix lights and I sincerely doubt the lowly 2 Series will get such a costly technological options. So this specific adaptive LED design, more or less, is here to stay. As far the taillights go, BMW has to keep up with US regulations on the photometric size requirement for the brake light and turn signals, so they could only stray so far from the current design with the already limited illuminated surface area, so I wouldn't expect much of a change there either. |
