Bimmercode

I asked about the G42 M240I support.
Whenever my build comes in, I'll update this thread on what works.
I plan on using this adapter, https://www.kiesmotorsports.com/prod...39538241929301

Hi,
you may be able to connect to the car using the G20 selection and some of the options may be available, but it is not officially supported yet.

Kind regards / Schöne Grüße

Thanks! Have this available from my F22. Worked very well. I was wondering about using it for the G42 as well. When mine arrives (hopefully next week). I will check it out

For what it’s worth
I recently bought the modBMW adaptor and it works flawlessly, not only that it has an ethernet port just in case you want to use a hardwire connection.
I had a couple of tech questions and he answered in minutes despite the conflicting time zones
When someone offers great service they are worth a mention

I'm curious what options will be available. Something I will probably grab in the future.

Having used this app for about a year on a daily driver it’s a must have
For G42 (according to Bimmercode) before they update the app the following functions are available if the control module is fitted.

https://bimmercode.app/cars/g20/

Convenience things like stop start memory (if you have auto stop start in the USA) removal of the navigation nag screen and ability to start in sport individual (or anything else) are alone worth the cost of the app.

Which OBD module do you use? Looks like the "built for bimmercode" one is out of stock everywhere.

I have both the modBMW wireless and the OBDLINK® CX ("built for bimmercode") The modBMW wireless (and ethernet) adaptor is much better and much faster but they are compatible with the F G and i series BMW only where the OBDLINK® CX can be used with virtually everything, the OBDLINK® CX is bluetooth and is really slow, the modBMW is as fast as a straight ethernet connection.
I prefer to use an iPad as there is no carplay conflict as the ipad does not have the embedded carplay app.
To use wireless its best to use flight mode to avoid conflicts
I mentioned the suppler above for the modBMW adaptor, just above as he has awesome service and is quite a lot less expensive than others who all supply the similar adaptor with their own firmware and branding

Thanks for that. I ordered the modBMW one. Accounting for conversion from Euros to USD, it's only $75 delivered on DHL. Appreciate the advice!

So I used the Kies wireless adapter and was able to use both BimmerCode and BimmerLink. When signing into BimmerCode I chose the 3 Series instead of the 2. And to my surprise it worked. Just to test it out I coded the Bowers Wilks option on the audio. Then I went into BimmerLink and it worked as well. The exhaust Flap is worth the money alone. I will say doing all that made me quite anxious since none specifically state it's for our cars. But so far… no harm, no foul.

Thanks for being a 1st . So you chose the G20 option for the 3 series? I don't see the exhaust as an option, https://bimmercode.app/cars/g20/

Yes I did. And I didn't use BimmerCode for the Exhaust. I used BimmerLink

This is awesome! Had a feeling some g20 would work. Can you code ambient lighting?

It was an option. But it's my first experience with BimmerCode. And I was having some slight connection issues (after following the manual). When I get off work I'm going to try and spend a little more time with it.

By some modern shipping miracle, DHL dropped off my modBMW obd2 scanner last night. Considering the scanner was picked up in Sofia, Bulgaria Monday afternoon its incredible it made it here in 2 days, for roughly $25 for shipping.

I used bimmercode and already coded the default driving mode to sport individual, which I figure takes care of start stop plus driving mode all in one configuration change.

I am tempted to try out some of the coding options for instrument cluster displays. IIRC from reading some g20 forums, they were not able to do much with the ambient lighting settings. I know some 5 series that were successful, but sadly these cars have as few "chips" as possible in the new era.

Not sure of US consumer law but you are not changing any OE equipment and not modifying any hardware, you are simply choosing one of the options provided by BMW so I don’t see how it could void warranty. Afterall access is via an unrestricted OBD2 port

US law generally prohibits them from denying you warranty coverage unless a modification is directly related to the problem, e.g. they can't refuse to repair your radio because you put new wheels on the car. But if you were to tune your engine and it blows up, that's on you. Of course, just because the law says something doesn't guarantee you won't have to fight with the dealer.

That being said, I've made coding changes on my last two BMWs and they never once even mentioned it. The problem you're most likely to encounter is: you take it in, they have to update the software to fix your problem, and they wipe your changes out in the process. So you have to code it again when you get home.

Do you have to keep the OBD plugged in for the coding to “stick”? Or do you just need to have plugged in to change settings then you can remove?

Coding "sticks" even after you remove the device.

Was able to code a few things myself with Toyota Supra and 2 series options with no problem. I will try the G20 today to at least start in Sport or above mode than Comfort.
