e90 auto folding side mirror problem
Here is a video I found of the same issue I am having with my 06 330i.
Anyone have a fix for this: click here for video Basically when auto folding the mirrors in it works fine. When auto folding out the drivers side mirror doesnt stop until it pointing toward the front of the car so its not stopping where it should. |

I had the same problem in my car and here's how I fixed it (I cut and pasted it from an earlier post I made):
"Okay I found this solution in another thread and it's worked for me so far. When the mirror is extended all the way (to the incorrect position) and the other mirror is in its proper position, take your hand and pull the incorrect mirror all the way back in to the folded in position. Then press the button to fold the mirrors in. Press the button again and the mirrors should both reset to the proper folded out position. I have no idea how long this fix will last, but so far so good." |

i'm having a related but different problem. my driver's side mirror doesn't rotate all the way forward, but on default open position is just slightly forward from where it should be. as a result, i can't really adjust the mirror to see correctly, i have to move my head to see.
i've tried the suggested, manual fold-in, then push the fold out button method mentioned here. sometimes there is a loud clack when the fold-out starts but it ends up stopping at the same wrong position again. any suggestions for adjusting the stop position? hopefully a DIY solution since I'm out of warranty. |

I hate to Hijack but I am having this same issue and the fix noted above didn't work.. The Driver side mirror opens up too far. If i try the above trick it just clicks really loud and then resets to the 'wrong' position. thoughts?

Personally, I'd pull off the mirror itself from the housing, it unclips, and take a look behind there with it opening and closing. I'll bet there's a broken clip or something there.

I believe I closed my mirrors, opened them but held the mirror from passing the point where it faces away from the car... repeat until it no longer folds past the normal position. That's what worked for me anyways...

Try this. Press the button to fold the mirrors in. When they are both folded in, take the one that you are having problems with and manually fold it out about 90 degrees. You will feel the mirror housing disengage from the motor. Now press the mirror fold button to fold the mirrors back out, (the one you manually folded will go past where it is supposed to be,) and then press the button again to fold them in. If it works correctly, the mirror that you folded out earlier should fold in, but you will hear the motor continue to run on that side and then it will POP back into the groove. Press the button once more and see if it is correct now. If that doesn't work, you might have to buy a new housing assembly like I did.

but i didn't believe the motor was the issue. seems this problem is very common and BMW should provide a fix. |

Same problem here the quick fix posted above worked for about two months then it acted up again going past the original stop point. Took the car in and got the motor and mirror replaced. Cost around 850 bucks but I have an after market warranty thankfully because in the 8 months of owning the car I've had the mirror go bad, door lock actuators, and the horn even broke. Next thing I have to get fixed is the metallic ticking noise. Mind you this is a 2007 328i and only has 34800 miles on it. Don't think I'm going to buy another BMW any time soon or in the future.

Looks like I get to spring for a mirror. I tried all the quick fix solutions in the various threads but mine still over rotates. And when I manually put it in the right place, it will still over rotate when I come out and unlock the car/open the door.

hi, first post here...new owner to an 07 335.
I've searched this out quite a bit and none seem to align to my issue. My mirrors, they fold in as expected. BUT if i push the button, the mirrors fold out all the way forward. If i push the button again, the mirrors fold all the way in. They will never stop midway in their home positions. They move evenly, not independently as most describe their problems. I've tried the fixes people post up but none fix my issue. Anyone provide any insight to the issue? Thanks! |

More: Someone in this thread:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/arc.../t-322990.html notes a software fix is needed. Is there a setting to be made? Anyone? Hello, is this thing on?

Tried the proposed several times. Didn't work. Then saw this video. It shows the mechanism internally very well. If you look at 49 seconds into the video you'll see that the issue is the spring loaded rod is stuck and is the culprit. It's simply binding and not extending all the way or freely. Obvious solution is to lubricate it. So with no disassembly I simply saturated the spot between the housing and the base where the mirror assembly rotates with WD40. I then by hand moved the assembly back and forth several times. Problem fixed! We'll see how long it works. My car was one of the early e90s having taken delivery in June of 2005. The problem just started for the first time yesterday 11 years later. Hoping that my fix will last a while.
