Oil consumption

Shortly after picking up my 325i the oil light came on and I topped it up with 1 litre of oil, this then showed on the dash as just shy of the max level. Since then I've covered 2000 miles and when I check the oil the level it's now showing that its gone down by 3/4 of a litre! That can't be right can it? Anyone else with a 325i (2.5) had oil consumption like this?

Mine is like this. Get about 1500 miles for every 1 litre. Spoke to the dealers and apparently this is 'within normal tolerance'

IIRC the oil consumption tolerance *get out clause* is 1L/1000km.

Some seem to use lots, some none at all. I'd try not to read into it too much and just give it oil as and when required. One way to think of it is its doing an oil change as it goes along

That's an outrageous added hidden running cost.

I don't understand why it should be that way either. My old E46 M3 didn't use a drop of oil between services.

When I was using amsoil, I consumed about 1qt every 1k miles. Now I went back to bmw oil and been 1k and haven't used any based on the dash gauge.

A qt. in 2,000-3,000 miles would be normal.

Had my E91 325 for two monts now, done 2500 miles and had to put a litre in last night, car has done 55000. Was a bit worried until I found these threads and a lot of them seem to do this. No sign of leaks or blue smoke, so just keep an eye on it I suppose, unless someone knows something else.

My 325i had its last oil service at a bosch center. Almost a week after I bought it, it needed a litre of oil. Then maybe a few hundred miles another 1/2 litre, a thousand miles later another litre. It did have a slight leak from the cam cover gasket which was fixed but 4000 miles later I haven't added a drop of oil. I have a feeling the oil used in the service wasn't great and since adding castrol it's stopped eating the stuff.

ive had the oil changed twice in my ownership (not in line with OBC computer), and after change it takes a couple of weeks to tell me I need a litre of oil, I top it up and then its fine.
its strange that once topped up again, it doesnt seem to use the oil at the same rate as immediately after the oil change.
