ModernSpare Review

My M240i Xdrive has the engine cooling and big brake package which means it did not come with run flat tires. After being stranded for 3.5 hours waiting for a tow, and my BMW dealer needing to order the tire, I decided I needed to have some sort of backup plan in the event I am on a road trip away from BMW or tire dealer.

There are a lot more resourceful people on this forum than I am - I just want to buy a fix and make it quick and easy. I found the company ModernSpare.com.

I bought the complete package with jack, wrench for lugs, carry bag, and 1" spacer so it will work with the big brake package.

The kit was missing the spacer I ordered when it arrived but they sent it as soon as I notified them.

I tried it on the front today and it seemed to work just fine. No rubbing but it's definitely not something I want on full time, you can tell it's there. My car is lowered and the jack is not a low profile jack so I will need to be creative with car placement when jacking up with a flat so it will get under the jack pad.

It was over $550 shipped but it will hopefully get me out of a bind if needed.

What kind of damaged did you get? I assume the BMW pump and seal kit was ineffective?

I have non run flats, I am carrying a quality plug kit and tools to remove the tire, betting this will be enough, use the BMW pump to re-fill the tire.

I hit a pothole and destroyed the tire enough I had to get a new one. Fortunately the wheel was fine.

Changed them out with Cobra.

Just bought the tire/wheel with the spacer (have the rest). I still had doubts about it fitting well on the front given the cooling and high performance package. Glad to see that it works. Thanks for sharing.

It didn’t cause any issues when I test drove it so it seems to be close enough.

I did notice they went to 19” wheels without a spacer now 👍🏻

According to their website, it's within .1 inches of the staggered 791m wheels.

Thank you, this was very helpful. I just ordered a ModernSpare for my 2022 M240i, which also has the Cooling and High Performance Tire Package.

Coincidently, it's the same color as yours, and I also live in WA.

That is not cheap that’s for sure. I would only need the wheel but it’s still $410.

Thanks for sharing. I noticed there are multiple holes. Do you know if this can fit different bolt pattern, say for example a nissan, etc.

I imagine so. The same wheel/tire also fits our 2015 Mercedes C400.
